*This position can be based in any of our Texas, Washington, Oregon, or California offices.
CDM Smith has an opportunity for an Intermediate to Senior Transportation Design Engineer to perform as a technical lead and design manager on urban mobility, transit, active transportation, and roadway transportation projects in the West, including Seattle and the Bay Area. This individual will help lead a dynamic and growing design team delivering forward-thinking transportation projects.
Job responsibilities may include:
-Leading and coordinating a team of planners and engineers in the production and delivery of technical products for feasibility studies, PA&ED studies, and PS&E packages on a range of transportation projects. Includes ownership of all technical outputs as well as leading the planning, production, and progress of all technical deliverables.
-Will integrate technical solutions, working closely with the Project Manager to confirm that the project is delivered to the agreed scope, budgets, and schedules.
-With the Project Manager, serve as a liaison between clients and design teams, coordinate and attend project meetings with clients, public officials, engineers, planners, and transportation system users.
-Work collaboratively with the Project Manager to build, maintain, and manage strong client relationships.
-Preparing, reviewing, interpreting, analyzing, and modifying complex engineering plans, drawings, specifications, contract documents, and engineering reports for conformance to professional standards and approved budgets.
-Preparing transportation reports and plans based on project analyses and assessments.
-Supporting the team in the delivery of technical and analytical services, including plan and specification preparation, data analysis, research, and utilizing design software.
-Coordinating the development of the project technical delivery approach and identification of appropriate technical resource requirements and key staff.
-Motivate the technical team and proactively support career development opportunities for technical personnel. -Implementing effective communication and reporting protocols within the technical team.
-Managing project Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) requirements.
-Participating in new business development.

Minimum Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
-Professional engineering (PE) license.
-7 years of related experience.
-Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
-Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

Skills and Abilities:
Expert Knowledge of computer assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices. Expert Knowledge of engineer principles of design. Expert Knowledge of Microsoft business software (excel, word, etc.). Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Expert knowledge of federal, state and local regulations. Basic knowledge of design standards (AASHTO, NACTO, etc.).
