Job Description:

LiveRamp is the leading data connectivity platform. We are committed to connecting the world's data safely and effectively, advancing innovation, and empowering people to do good. Our platform powers customer experiences centered around the needs and concerns of real people, keeping the Internet open for all. We enable individuals around the world to connect with the brands and products they love. LiveRampers thrive on solving challenging problems for the good of humanity-and we're always looking for smart, kind, and creative people to help us get there. Mission: LiveRamp makes it safe and easy for businesses to use data effectively. As stewards of the largest independent deterministic identity graph, LiveRamp engineers work with huge volumes of data surpassed only by the largest internet giants. Our infrastructure includes one of the largest Hadoop/Spark deployments in the world, with an aggregate 90,000 CPUs, 300TB of memory, and 30 PB of storage. Our projects range from working with leading edge cloud-native API-first services to big data and real-time systems. We're looking for someone that combines technical breadth and depth with strong technical leadership to successfully define and deliver on reference architecture. In particular we're looking for a principled leader who can lead and guide strong engineers with a growth mindset. The Chief Architect will be the top technical leader and subject matter expert within engineering, working alongside technical and product leaders, reporting to our Chief Technology Officer. You will:

  • Define, communicate, and drive LiveRamp's technical vision, winning support from engineering and aligning with product and business strategy.
  • Own the long term reference architecture and align it with overall business and product strategy; communicate architectural decisions, plans, goals, and strategies.
  • Maintain dotted line relationships with senior architects spread across the engineering organization.--
  • Establish, promote, and coach engineering teams on technical best practices.--
  • Establish technical standards around design, software reliability, quality etc.
  • Mentor, inspire, and teach/learn from engineers; cultivate an atmosphere of technical learning and advancement.
  • Speak, write, evangelize, and communicate about LiveRamp's technical capabilities at conferences and other events.
  • Stay on the cutting edge of emerging technology, forging key relationships with peers at public and private institutions.
  • Own and act as an editor of LiveRamp's technical blog and OSS vision.
  • Promote LiveRamp as an excellent place for highly skilled engineers to work; collaborate across engineering and recruiting to attract talent to the team. About you:
    • 12+ years of experience building large scale distributed systems and applications, including design, development, (distributed) architectures, networking, security, and performance tuning.
    • Motivated, autonomous and responsible with a history of shaping and establishing technical vision and architecture within successful companies.--
    • Experience as an internal technical leader within an engineering organization of at least 100 headcount.
    • A decisive risk-taker focused on outcomes. LiveRamp is about shipping. This means we focus on getting things done; not on building the perfect system. We strongly believe in rapid iteration.
    • A creator and a builder who embraces ambitious ideas, creates alignment around plans, and then moves into efficient execution.
    • An optimizer and automator. LiveRampers are super talented and their time is incredibly valuable so the focus is on automation of repetitive tasks.
    • A talent attractor who has successfully inspired and recruited great people to past teams.
    • A mentor, leader, and culture-builder. Has extensive experience leading complex technical projects, mentoring, and coaching engineers in tackling technical challenges at a large scale and accelerated pace.--
    • An outstanding ability to recognize, analyze, and synthesize complex information - then clearly communicate insights in language either technical or business oriented to audiences of varied expertise.
    • Detail-oriented and curious. When faced with a black box - opens it up and figures out how it works
    • Effectively prioritizes time and can collaborate easily in any medium - email, slack, phone, face-to-face.--
    • Great communication skills. Asking questions, listening, facilitating and arbitrating discussions, and presenting complex ideas to groups large and small, and to any audience from a senior engineer to C-level executives.
    • Ego maturity with first-rate interpersonal skills.--
    • Strong ethical baseline that is highly aligned with LiveRamp's values. Bonus Points:
      • Knowledge of and prior experience with high-scale real time and distributed systems - Active participant and/or key-note speaker at major Big-Data/Distributed Systems conferences
      • Extensive knowledge of OSS tools and active participation in OSS community
      • Strong academic attainment, including advanced degrees.
      • Experience with mid-size organizations and startups.
      • Ability to influence without authority, working with technical and cross-functional teams who do not report into this role to get things done.
      • People: work with talented, collaborative, and friendly people who love what they do.
      • In-Office Food: enjoy catered meals, boundless snacks, and the occasional food truck.
      • Fun: we host in-person and virtual events such as game nights, happy hours, camping trips, and sports leagues.
      • Work/Life Harmony: flexible paid time off, options for working from home, and paid parental leave.
      • Whole Health Package: medical, dental, vision, and disability insurance. Plus mental health support (via Talkspace) and fitness reimbursement up to $100 per month.
      • Savings: our 401K matching plan helps you plan ahead.
      • RampRemote: a comprehensive program to assist you in setting up a home office that works for you More about us: LiveRamp's mission is to connect data in ways that matter, and doing so starts with our people. We know that inspired teams enlist people from a blend of backgrounds and experiences. And we know that individuals do their best when they not only bring their full selves to work but feel like they truly belong.
