Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory has an opening for a Senior
Scientific Engineer Associatein Berkeley, CA.
Lead the development of efficiency standards analyses for
appliances (specifically air-conditioners, cooking products,
clothes washers, pool pumps, and other home appliance products) and
engage in various research projects given the broad appliance
standards program goals and objectives. Investigate and develop
analytical methods and computational tools to improve the energy,
economic and environmental analyses of energy efficiency policies.
Develop analytical tools for the models and use statistical
programs to test the analytical results. Conduct technical,
economic and policy research and analysis of issues associated with
appliance standards, appliance markets and shipments, and
energy/water use. Conduct comprehensive research into home
appliance markets and usage. Construct and manage complex and large
databases in support of the analyses for home appliances and other
energy consuming products. Organize and work with large amounts of
data using various types of software (such as simulation tools,
spreadsheets, and database programs). Develop complex modeling
tools in support of energy efficiency standards analyses. Provide
mathematical expertise in handling complex analytical problems
using data on home appliance markets, technologies, and consumer
behavior. Present at DOE public meetings and describe analyses
performed to a diverse set of stakeholders including industry
representatives and environmental advocacy groups. Prepare
presentations for the public meeting.
REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Mathematical Sciences,
Engineering, Economics, or Statistics and 3 years of experience in
the job offered or in a research related occupation.

time series, dynamic systems, stochastic models and predictive
2. 3 years of experience of quantitative analysis, mathematical
modeling and graphing.
3. 3 years of experience working with regression models, such as
mixed effect models and survival models.
4. 3 years of experience with scientific parallel computing
5. 3 years programming experience with Python or C++.
6. 3 years of experience with advanced mathematical, statistical
and physical concepts with demonstrated capability to apply those
concepts in the development of complex models and analysis
7. 3 years of experience with R, SAS, or Python for statistical
8. 3 years of experience with MCMC-based methods.
9. 3 years of experience with git and Latex.
