What Your Job Will Be Like We are seeking a Telemetry Support Technologist to join a multidisciplinary team that designs and develops advance components, subsystems, and systems for national defense programs. The Telemetry Support Technologist performs a variety of duties in support of technical activities in such areas of instrumentation, mechanics, computer applications, testing, or engineering data collection. For this position the Telemetry Support Technologist is expected to perform the following: * Organize, track, and maintain telemetry hardware. Work closely with the engineer staff to understand schedules and test objectives to make sure appropriate hardware and piece parts are available. Control internal change control processes and report issues or conflicts before they arise. * Maintain control of all chemicals and hazards used in the laboratory through their lifecycle. * Procure telemetry parts and laboratory supplies as necessary to meet team needs. Communicate with buyers and vendors to understand delivery dates and potential roadblocks. * Maintain calibration on all tools and equipment necessary. Ensure that calibration down-time does not affect mission critical testing. * Work with CCHD to maintain TM servers for specific software licenses. * Oversee the schedule and maintenance of 8430 vehicles. * Oversee repairs/upgrades of laboratory equipment - maintain service contracts as required. * Maintain meeting minutes and action items for project meetings. * Assist staff with equipment reapplication and sensitive material disposal. * Ensure laboratory and building storage is used appropriately and effectively - guide telemetry staff on available hardware and storage opportunities. * Oversee access lists for the laboratory; both physical and cyber * Run experiments in the lab when requested. * Educate staff on safety and security * Create parts kits for PWA fabrication * Procure TM hardware or test support equipment * Attend technical meetings and provide support where appropriate * Partner with other Sandia organizations to ensure work is performed correctly (facilities, CCHD, procurement, ES&H, PSL, TAG, Reapp, Security) * Work with outside vendors to ensure work is being performed correctly * Escort non-TM staff into laboratory areas to perform work. * Organize and present status information to engineers and management * Train staff on safety measures; participate in audits * Work with teams to ensure work planning and controls are followed * Participate with building emergency management Qualifications We Require * High School Diploma plus three or more years of directly related experience * Ability to work independently and as well as part of a team. * Ability to travel for work related tasks (10%) * Ability to obtain a U.S. DOE Q security clearance * Proficient with Microsoft Office applications Qualifications We Desire * Experience with Sandia Mission Support operations * Experience with Information Management * Demonstrated examples of organizational skills and multi-tasking * Demonstrated examples of self-motivation and continuous improvement * Demonstrated examples of following through on projects until completion * Experience with IT * Skill in related technologies, such as mechanics, electronics, or computers. * U.S. DOE L or Q security clearance or transferable DoD clearance About Our Team Sandia California's Telemetry and Stockpile Support Department develops and maintains telemetry systems in support of the nuclear deterrence surveillance mission. Telemetry systems has responsibility for all aspects of telemetry development, including conceptual design, prototype development and testing, and transitioning production work to DOE production agencies. Telemetry systems integrate precision sensor electronics and signal conditioning with RF communication systems to support flight testing of Joint Test Assemblies. Work is performed by teams of electrical engineers and mechanical engineers, in partnership with quality engineering, reliability engineering, and project management. Current development mission assignments include the W88 ALT370 JTA8 project, the W78 JTA6R project, and the W76 JTA3 project. Stockpile support oversees the quality, reliability, and availability of all qualified telemetry systems that are being used in the on-going surveillance mission.
