Job Description:

Under the direction of Principal or designee, work with students and their families to address student issues that impact student learning, encourage and coordinate parent education and involvement in various school programs and other activities; perform liaison duties between school and mostly non-English speaking parents at an assigned site; provide information on local agencies or school services to families as appropriate; prepare and maintain related records and reports.Essential Functions: ESSENTIAL DUTIES:Promote parent education for mostly non-English speaking parents and involvement in various school programs and other activities; provide information and materials to mostly non-English speaking parents to assist them in utilizing community services and resources; provide information on local agencies or school services as appropriate; prepare and maintain records and reports.Perform liaison duties between school, community resources and agencies and mostly non-English speaking parents at an assigned school site; assist in school registrations (as needed); outreach to mostly non-English speaking parents regarding student performance including attendance, behavior, academic achievement, health and medical problems after regular school procedures have been exhausted; participate in SST and Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings as support, not as interpreter.Make scheduled home visits to acquire information and discuss school-related problems such as absenteeism, illnesses, behavior problems and other matters.Coordination of outside organizations, schools and families; contact community businesses to obtain donations and plan activities.Facilitate family participation in various activities; identify and encourage recruitment of parent volunteers; explain and assist in determining program eligibility; arrange parent activities including recruitment, training, and scheduling.Conduct and coordinate parent training and associated school committees; arrange training schedule, speakers, meeting sites and presentations; prepare and distribute related materials.Participate at a variety of school and community meetings; attend and participate in workshops, and conferences as assigned.Operate a variety of office and classroom equipment including a computer, copier, laminator, VCR/DVD player, television set and telephone.Working knowledge of current student data information system, and/or ability to learn.Arrange for translation/interpretation of written materials, conferences and other meetings as assigned.Inventory, order, receive and distribute materials, supplies and equipment.OTHER DUTIES:Conduct parent tours of school facilities as assigned.Perform related duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE OF:Community resource organizations including various Federal, State and County agencies. District organization, policies and objectives.Record-keeping and report preparation techniques.Oral and written usage of English.Oral and written usage of designated second language.Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.Telephone techniques and etiquette.Policies and objectives of school programs and activities.Public speaking techniques.Operation of a variety of office and instructional equipment including a computer.ABILITY TO:Perform liaison duties between school and mostly non-English speaking parents at an assigned site.Plan, organize and implement parent education and involvement activities and programs. Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.Read and write EnglishRead and write designated second language.Operate a computer and a variety of office and instructional equipment. Learn, apply and explain policies, procedures, rules and regulations. Work independently with little direction.Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others. Meet schedules and time lines.Plan and organize work.Prepare and present oral presentations.Maintain confidentiality of sensitive and privileged information. Maintain records and prepare reports.Read, interpret and follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures.Work flexible hours.Ability to travel to different locations.Education & Experience Requirements: Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school and one year experience working in community service programs or related field.LICENSES DESIRED AND OTHER SKILLS:Valid California driver's license.Must have own transportation.Selection Process: The examination process for this recruitment may be comprised of one or any combination of the following: screening of the applicant's training, background, and experience; scored evaluation of responses on a supplemental application; written examination(s); qualifications appraisal oral examination; performance examination; or technical oral examination, scored on a job-related basis. Only the most highly qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the examination process. Successful candidates who pass all parts of the examination process will be placed on the eligibility list in order of their relative merit as determined by these competitive examinations. Applicants who successfully complete the bilingual examination process will receive a bilingual stipend.If your application is accepted to advance in this recruitment, the exam and interview dates are as follows:Written Exam: July 18, 2018Oral Board: July 24, 2018Dates are tentative, but it is highly recommended that you plan your calendar accordingly. No Make-up dates will be offered. Other Important Information: The duration of the eligibility list is one (1) year unless extended by the Personnel Commission. The eligibility list from this recruitment will be used for full-time, part-time and limited term positions.New employees to the district are placed on stepA of the salary schedule. The maximum salary is reached after 3 1/2 years of employment.Recruitmentsthat list Promotional and Open Competitive opportunities may result in one of the following: 1) a dual-certified list in which internal employees of the San Lorenzo Unified School District are awarded seniority points to their final passing of score before the placement on the eligibility list, or 2) two separate eligibility list consisting of candidates on a promotional only list and an open list. In the latter case, candidates on the promotional list are referred to the hiring authority before candidates on the open.
