You should be curious, motivated, humble, and thrive in ambiguity.As the Principal Product Designer, you will create and execute the design strategy for our products and grow our design team. You will work closely with the product management and engineering teams to ensure our design aligns with our overall business strategy and goals.To succeed in this role, you must be a strategic thinker who can prioritize tasks efficiently, embrace ambiguity, and build simple and effective designs. You must be flexible and collaborative, willing to provide design guidance for branding, marketing, product design, research, and fundraising as needed.As our most senior designer, you must be comfortable with things being less perfect than youd like them to be. We need to move fast, and we have to have a bias for action over perfection.You should be curious, motivated, and humble and thrive in a space of ambiguity. You should also be able to perform competently in the following areas:
      • Discovery research
      • Testing & validation
      • Information architecture
      • Experience design
      • Interaction design
      • Visual designBeing a generalist will be essential in this role, as you will be required to help with branding work, product design, illustration, supporting marketing, and hiring. We are a frugal team, meaning you wont always be able to contract work and will need to roll up your sleeves and work through it.Finally, you must document your process and decisions so that future design team members have the context they need to succeed.Responsibilities
        • Product Design - Translate user needs and business requirements into innovative design solutions to enhance functionality and appeal.
        • Brand Development - Create and enforce brand guidelines across all touchpoints, ensuring uniformity in marketing materials, the product, and online presence. User Research and Testing - Conduct user research to gain insights into user behavior, preferences, and pain points.
        • Competitive Research - You use and understand competing products to help us make user experience an area of competitive differentiation.
        • Prototyping and Wireframing - Develop prototypes and wireframes to visualize and test design concepts before full implementation.
        • Collaboration - Work closely and foster a collaborative environment with cross-functional teams, including developers, marketers, and product managers, to align design with overall goals and timelines.
        • Staying Current with Design Trends - Stay informed about the latest design trends, tools, and technologies to keep our design current and competitive.
        • Iterative Design and Feedback Loop - Encourage a culture of feedback and learning within the company to drive design excellence.
        • Budget and Resource Management - Efficiently manage design-related budgets and resources to maximize value.
        • Communication - Effectively communicate design concepts, ideas, and rationale to team members and stakeholders using verbal and visual means.
        • Leadership and Vision - Contribute to the development of a long-term design vision aligned with the companys overall strategy.
        • Compliance and Accessibility - Ensure that designs adhere to relevant legal and accessibility standards to make the product inclusive and compliant with industry regulations.
        • Risk Management - Identify potential design-related risks and challenges and proactively address them to minimize adverse impacts on the product or brand.Qualifications
          • 10+ years of experience as a UX designer, preferably as a founding designer of a startup.
          • Strong portfolio showcasing your design skills and process.
          • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
          • Knowledge of user-centered design principles and methodologies.
          • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
          • Experience with agile development methodologies.
          • Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment with a high degree of ambiguity.Practicalities
