Job Description:

Vir Biotechnology (Vir) is seeking a Scientist II reporting to the Director, Analytical Development Bioassays. You will lead the development of bioassays to interrogate the mechanism of action for antibody and other biologic therapeutics. You will execute cell-based and binding assays for characterization testing in support of process and formulation development, comparability and structure-activity relationship studies. You will transfer in bioassays from Research to Analytical Development, develop new methods, optimize, and qualify methods according to regulatory and phase appropriate requirements. You will design and conduct laboratory experiments, author protocols/reports, and serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for bioassays on cross-functional teams.

  • Develop, qualify and transfer cell-based and binding bioassays
  • Bring in new assay modalities and technology to the group
  • Prepare assay standards, controls, critical reagents, and establish appropriate system suitability criteria
  • Perform characterization testing including binding ELISA, and effector function assays to support Process and Formulation development studies
  • Troubleshoot method-related issues internally and at external labs
  • Author study protocols, development/qualification reports and test methods, summarize and verify data for regulatory filings
  • Subject matter expert for Bioassays within the Product and Process Development department and the broader CMC organization
  • You will serve and the lead in multiple technical areas and on multiple program teams that will vary in complexity


    • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years' of industry experience, Master's degree with 6+ years' of industry experience, PhD with 3+ years' of industry experience
    • Experience in bioassay / Potency method development, transfer and validation
    • Experience in data analysis of bioassays including parallel line analysis and other statistical data analysis for evaluating method performance
    • Ability to execute laboratory experiments both independently and with other team members
    • Effective at trouble-shooting method-related issues at CDMOs and CROs
    • Experience working on multiple projects, adjusting quickly to changes in priorities
    • Experience leading multiple projects and representing a technical area of focus on crossfunctional teams

      The expected salary range for this position is $128,500 to $169,500. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
