To accomplish this, we are pursuing deep, hard science with an entrepreneurial mindset and creating a world-class team of builders, innovators, and dreamers across a wide range of disciplines.We are hiring for a Senior/Staff Scientist, Biophysics, to join our growing team. In this role, you will develop biophysical assays to characterize our affinity reagents and collaborating cross-functionally to incorporate these reagents in the Nautilus platform. This position will work closely with colleagues upstream in the probe development process and downstream in platform integration. This position will report to the Lead, Senior Staff Scientist, Probe Characterization, within the R&D organization and is located in San Carlos, CA.Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for forming strategies, executing plans, analyzing results, and brainstorming innovative ideas to characterize affinity reagents using a range of state-of art techniques, and to develop and test mechanistic hypotheses.
  • You will develop methods to determine whether candidate probes are likely to succeed within our platform and to better understand specific, off-target, and non-specific binding of affinity reagent candidates.
  • You will document and present results and insights at departmental and cross-functional project team meetings.
  • You will mentor and provide guidance to junior scientists and research associates.
  • You will engage with external partners to drive collaborative activities efficiently.
  • You will stay up to date with the latest advancements and trends in biophysics and contribute to the intellectual environment of the organization.Requirements
    • Ph.D. in biophysics, chemistry, physics, or a related biological/life science field, with 2-6+ years of relevant industry experience.
    • Strong background in single molecule experiments such as FRET, enzyme kinetics, binding-unbinding, single particle tracking, lifetime, and/or polarization.
    • Experience with biochemical/biophysical techniques including, but not limited to, SPR, BLI, ITC, DSF, or fluorescent/luminescence plate-based assays, such as ELISA, ELONA, florescent microscopy.
    • Strong expertise in assay development with technical background in proteins, antibodies and affinity reagents and their biophysical characterization.
    • Strong quantitative analysis, troubleshooting, and statistical analysis skills.
    • Willingness to work collaboratively within a team as well as independently.
    • Excellent record keeping, written and oral communication skills.
