Job descriptionIgnite! Reading teaches kids to read.Today, 67%
of students and 82% of low-income students can't read at grade
level by the end of third grade. That's when you are supposed to go
from learning to read to reading to learn. It's America's number
one education crisis and we know how to fix it.Ignite teaches kids
to read by providing 15 minutes a day of 1:1 virtual reading
instruction. We focus on the reading fundamentals (letters,
phonics, and sight words) kids need to master so they can decode a
sentence. Our program accelerates reading progress 2.4x and we are
disrupting how schools think about reading instruction.Ignite
launched our first school implementation in the fall of 2021.
Sixteen months later, we will have grown our number of schools and
students 35x.Ignite! Reading is a mission-driven public benefit

justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion.Ignite! Reading is
currently hiring Tutor Educators who will join our certification
program beginning this July and August and will tutor Ignite
students throughout the next academic year.Our Tutor Educators lead
daily, one-on-one, 15 minute virtual tutoring sessions with the
same students, 5 days a week, focused on the foundational skills of
reading.Through our PAID certification course in the Science of
Reading Instruction, our Tutor Educators gain mastery of
instructional skills and teaching best practices grounded in
research. While completing certification, you'll work with 5 - 10
students developing strong relationships and gaining a deep
understanding of how to teach and inspire your students throughout
their journey to become readers. Once certified, successful Ignite
Tutor Educators work up to 30 hours a week as a force of change for
struggling readers.Ignite Tutor Educators:Demonstrate a commitment
to implementing skills learned and feedback received during
certification to get better on behalf of the children we
serve.Cultivate trusting, meaningful relationships with students
and schools while forming collaborative relationships with your
Ignite! Tutor Educator peers.Execute with a high-level of attention
to detail and meet deadlines.Show up genuinely excited to work with
students every day and hold the promises we make to students
sacred!Understand that learning to read is hard, practice empathy
and understanding, hold high expectations for their students, and
never ever give up on themArrive on time to all tutoring sessions,
fulfill all duties associated with your role while representing the
Ignite! Reading program with the highest degree of
professionalism.Complete our paid 60+ hour certification class and
gain mastery of the Science of Reading, our assessment systems,
program operations, and our research-based, foundational skills
curriculum.Tutors are paid $17.50/per hour while you are
successfully completing your certification course. Once certified,
tutors begin earning $20/per hour.Before you apply, read the
requirements below very carefully to understand the time
commitments we expect of tutors.Our Certification Process:We
require that hired tutors complete a 9-week certification class
that includes 6 weeks of practicum during which you will tutor 6
-10 students. Below you'll find a description of the time required
for the certification class and the practicum.Certification Class:
Successful applicants will have three certification course options
to choose from:July 24th - September 22nd, 2023August 21st -
October 20th, 2023September 11th, - November 10th, 2023All classes
are Monday - Friday, 5 days a week at the same time each day. We
will offer several class times to choose from.Tutors commit to 2
hour classes for the first 3 weeks and 1 hour classes plus a
minimum of 1.5 hours of tutoring in practicum for the remaining 6
weeks of the course.The certification course consists of both
synchronous and asynchronous learning experiences. Tutors will be
in live synchronous classes 3 days a week and completing
asynchronous learning 2 days a week.Practicum: After you have
completed the first 3 weeks of the certification course, your class
time will be reduced to one hour a day. To successfully complete
your practicum, you will need to provide a minimum of 3 hours a day
of availability between 8:00am and 5:00pm EST in addition to your
certification class providing us adequate options for scheduling
your students, five days a week, at the same times each day. You
may choose the tutoring times you are available.At Ignite! Reading,
