Fund Researcher
The Sage Group is seeking an Associate Fund Researcher for our
client, the parent organization leading a family of companies (FOC)
that includes Easterseals Northern California, Easterseals Hawaii,
Catalight Care Services, and Xolv Technology Solutions. Across the
five non-profit companies, there are nearly 700 employees working
together to responsibly disrupt and transform home and
community-based care and help become a diverse, equitable and
inclusive organization that works proactively to address complex
societal problems such as healthcare access and greater well-being
for underrepresented communities.
Job Summary The Associate Fund Researcher identifies, researches,
analyzes, ranks and prioritizes information on all prospective
donors. This role supports key leadership to inform development
strategies and advance potential donor relationships. The Fund
Researcher responds to research requests in a timely manner,
analyzing and synthesizing information, and generating
user-friendly profiles, memos and reports. Using manual research
methods and online donor databases, qualifies, screens, and rates
potential donors, and proactively identifies new prospective
corporate, major and principal gift donors. As part of a
collaborative team, the researcher will work with the Chief
Development Officer and members of the Development Team to ensure
that best prospects are assigned for follow up. The Fund Researcher
plays a critical role in the overall success of the growing
Development Program.
The role will include generating departmental reports; and will
research individual prospects in support of development efforts and
may assist the Development team in other fundraising activities,
such as events, campaigns, outreach, and individual and corporate
donor engagement.
The Fund Researcher may also support a variety of donor
appreciation activities, programs and mailings and may assist with
the preparation and submission of applications and proposals for
the provider organization. Core Responsibilities & Essential Job
Functions: Using a variety of electronic and print resources,
develops and synthesizes information on prospects (including
individuals, corporations and foundations) to produce clear
profiles/biographies of their background, career, financial
capacity, philanthropic interests, and nature of relationship to
Catalight and Easterseals Northern California and Easterseals
Hawaii. Identifies new opportunities by actively utilizing multiple
tools to complete deep and comprehensive research on both
prospective individual funders, corporate and foundation funders in
all relevant areas of opportunity. Some outreach and engagement
with potential funders and community stakeholders will be required.
Maintains detailed records of completed research with outcomes of
outreach. Establishes and follows protocols to determine how and
when prospects are put into the database. Undertakes financial
analysis of prospects' and donors' known wealth indicators to
assess potential philanthropic capacity. Conducts proactive
research to identify new potential major and principal gift donors
using push technology, data mining, screening, and other methods.
Proactively tracks and disseminates donor and prospect-related
information. Monitors news and publicly available financial
information on prospects from SEC filings, press releases, and
major newspapers. Analyzes various geographic areas and industries
to ascertain the strength and fundraising viability in particular
sectors. Supports prospect screening and data mining projects.
Helps to independently verify screening results. Updates
information in CRM database following established data standards.
Strategizes and partners with Development Team and the Chief
Development Officer to support the development of high-capacity
portfolios. Maintains proficiency with standard prospect research
resources (electronic, print, and other) and stays abreast of new
resources and technologies. Tracks research activity for internal
prospect research metrics. Creates and generates both standard and
custom reports on opportunities and prospects. Always safeguards
the confidentiality of constituent information by adhering to
ethical and industry standard confidentiality guidelines. Supports
other development staff when directed, in activities such as
Events, Individual Donors, and department- wide writing projects.
Ensures all online donor search engines have accurate data and an
up-to-date organization profile. Works collaboratively with the
Chief Development Officer to research and pursue all funding
opportunities through corporations who are donating in other ways.
Qualifications: Minimum Education, Experience & Training Equivalent
to: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work history required. 2+ years
in a researching and reporting role. Familiar with CRM database
software (e.g. Salesforce) and donor research tools. Leads and
participates in appropriate meetings. Attends workshops, trainings,
and meetings as needed. Works a flexible schedule as necessary,
including additional weekend or evening hours for special events or
deadlines. Performs other duties as assigned. - Knowledge & Skills:
Sensitivity to working with an ethnically, linguistically,
culturally, and economically diverse population. A commitment to
the values of the organization while demonstrating good judgment,
flexibility, patience and discretion when dealing with confidential
and sensitive matters. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook,
Word, Excel, etc.), especially Excel and related computer software.
Consistently demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills
while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality. Work in an
exciting, fast paced high energy environment while effectively
multitasking and managing day-to-day responsibilities without
supervision. Personable; able to work comfortably with individuals
at all levels within the organization. Excellent verbal and writing
communication skills; frequent proofreading and checking documents
for accuracy. Must be highly detail-oriented. Strong interpersonal
skills.
