In the San Francisco Bay Area, there are over 20,000 youth aged 16-24 who historically are excluded from the education, employment, and social support they need to successfully transition to adulthood. The events that occurred in 2020-21 caused the already growing opportunity gap to expand exponentially. Founded in 1981, New Door Ventures was borne out of the belief that by providing resources for youth to build foundational education and job skills, personal support, mentorship, and pathways to higher education and career opportunities, these young people can experience greater economic opportunity and stability in independent adulthood. 97% of New Door youth are low-income people of color who are experiencing barriers to employment and education. New Door clients represent a population of historically excluded youth in San Francisco. A typical client profile has a combination of critical risk factors: limited work experience, a background in foster care, justice system involvement, substance abuse histories, experience of homelessness, connection with gang activity, and lack of positive adult support. In 2020, 321 youth were served through our employment, training, alumni services, education, case management and graduate services. As a result, 86% of youth were employed and/or in school six months after graduating from New Door's programs. We've identified that one of the biggest challenges for youth is connecting their education and interests to a career, and the criticality of helping them uncover their passion and motivations to find their "why?" so they can do their best work. Over the course of the last year, we've received consistent feedback that continued support is essential for their success as they transition to independent adulthood. About the Program: To connect more young people to paid employment and support, we are currently seeking a Career Development Specialist to join our newly established Transition Services Program (TSP). TSP was established to meet the unmet need for additional job search and job placement support as they exit our long-established internship programs or participate in our high school diploma equivalency programs. Program elements include job search training and placement activities. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing team and program. About the Position: The Career Development Specialist ("CDS") will work collaboratively to develop and execute youth programs, provide individual job coaching and support to young people, and participate in the broader Bay Area youth employment community. The ideal candidate will share our commitment to personal integrity and advancing equity. This role is located primarily on-site at New Door's San Francisco location. NDV's staff is currently working a hybrid model, with scheduled in-person workdays each week. We plan a return to the office and in-person program delivery as dictated by public safety and service needs. New Door's spacious three-story building in the Mission District of San Francisco is a comfortable, welcoming space and is equipped to keep staff and clients protected from transmission of infectious disease. Office space is open-plan and shared with a collaborative, respectful team. Some travel within San Francisco and the East Bay is expected as the program develops. What Success Looks Like: -

• Young people connected to New Door's Transition Services Programs receive supportive and comprehensive job coaching and gain connection to employment, training programs, and/or continuing education
• Training programs are engaging and impactful
• Successful adjustment and improvement as changes in delivery of services and program models occur
• Youth and staff in New Door's internship and education programs understand and access the opportunities within TSP for support
• TSP is established as a critical provider of employment services within local youth workforce communities Primary Responsibilities:
  • Support youth with program intake, needs analysis, and program enrollment
  • Connect youth with paid employment opportunities that meet their needs and interests
  • Lead Job Search Accelerator (JSA) workshop facilitation and additional job skill training workshops
  • Document case notes and outcomes in Apricot database
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams such as business partnerships, volunteer engagement, marketing, HR, finance and others to support program activities
  • Conduct community outreach and external relationship management to recruit new program participants
  • Serve on internal task groups and committees as requested
  • Assist in supporting the San Francisco Alumni Leadership Council at biweekly meetings and ongoing projects Preferred Minimum Qualifications & Skills:
    • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a related field or its equivalent
    • 2+ years of experience in direct service to Transitional Aged, disconnected youth populations, preferably in a youth employment program
    • Demonstrated excellence in youth development principles and practice
    • Outstanding in-person and online facilitation and presentation skills
    • Experience with and enjoyment of 1:1 case management
    • Knowledge of San Francisco & East Bay Transitional Age Youth population needs, especially for historically oppressed people including those experiencing poverty, BIPOC, and LGBTQ+ individuals, along with available resources and community-based organizations that support such individuals
    • Ability to use appropriate computer and reporting systems including Windows operating system, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom (Apricot or Salesforce knowledge a plus).
    • Desired, but not required: Bilingual language capabilities, preferably Spanish. Compensation
      The Career Development Specialist will earn a starting salary of $50,000.00 - $54,000.00 depending on experience. Compensation is reviewed annually.
