Scientists - Infectious Disease

Company: Chan Zuckerberg Biohub
Location: San Francisco
Posted on: January 16, 2022

Job Description:

We are seeking curious, creative, and innovative PhD-level scientists to work in a highly collaborative, highly innovative, well-funded research environment whose goal is to understand the mechanisms underlying viral replication and develop new approaches that will ultimately lead to the development of effective antiviral therapies.

Scientist positions are now available in the Kistler Group in the Infectious Diseases program. Our research is focused on analysis of viral replication/transcription complexes to elucidate shared mechanistic features, inform the development of safe and effective direct-acting antivirals, and identify novel therapeutic targets related to host factors required for viral replication.

We are seeking curious, creative, and innovative PhD level scientists to join our efforts to merge synthetic biology and molecular virology to accelerate the generation of tools to examine the replication/transcription complexes of diverse known and emerging human viral pathogens. Our immediate research involves applying the tools we develop for biochemical isolation and characterization of viral replication/transcription complexes and the development of viral replicons to interrogate the host factors required for viral replication via small molecule and CRISPR screening.

Successful candidates will become part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. They will work independently to research, design, and perform experiments related to their area of research within the larger project goals. They will have opportunities to work with virologists and protein scientists within the Infectious Diseases program, and cell biologists within the Quantitative Cell Sciences program, and draw upon the expertise developed across the Mass Spectrometry, Computational Microscopy, and Data Sciences platforms. They will provide regular internal presentations to summarize their work and actively contribute ideas related to their work and the work of others in the group. The successful candidates will also author manuscripts related to their research advances and present their research at relevant external conferences and meetings. Candidates will also have opportunities to partner and mentor junior scientists.
