The Zendesk Custom Data team is looking for a proven backend engineer with experience in large scale systems to help craft and build our next-gen custom data platform.

What you will enjoy doing:

  • Put the customer first and have quality in mind.

  • Collaborate with different teams to build a new platform to unlock our data extensibility for our customers.

  • Work closely with product management when new features are being considered by being an advocate for not impacting the performance or quality of the existing product.

  • Participate in technical discussions and communicate your ideas or vision to others. You thrive in dealing with sophisticated problems, open to debates and brainstormings.

  • Collaborate with product managers, engineering managers, and support advocates to estimate and prioritize units of work.

  • Be responsible for the full release cycle from the development to deployment

What you bring to the role:

  • At least 5 years of proven background in building, scaling and operating large backend infrastructures.

  • Proven experience in building object models, schema management, object record management, and/ or rule engine.

  • Proficient with either Ruby, Java, or both.

  • An ability to review and understand an unfamiliar language would be preferred.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Ruby is a plus

  • Experience with building RESTful API's is a plus.

  • Experience with agile development processes, working in a fast-paced environment with continuous integration.

  • Experience with Continuous Deployment systems like Travis, Jenkins and Spinnaker
