Health Promotions Program, Family Wellness Program, Second Chance

Promotions Program: CARECEN s Health Promotion Program (HPP) is a
promotora (community health worker) focused program that trains
promotoras de salud to conduct outreach and provide critical health
information and education to Latino immigrant community members.
The program develops the leadership skills and capacity of a core
group of promotoras using a popular education framework. The areas
of health that the program addresses include, chronic diseases such
as diabetes and obesity prevention, oral health, as well as some
non-health issue areas such as immigrant parent voting. About Kali
K in (Home of the Sun) Kali K in (Home of the Sun) is a
collaborative working space shared by CARECEN SF and Instituto
Familiar de la Raza. The following programs are housed at Kali K
in: CARECEN SF s Family Wellness Program, Health Promotions Program
and Marketing & Communications Department. Instituto Familiar de la
Raza houses its Ind gena Health and Wellness Program. Both
organizations work in alignment to serve immigrant, indigenous and
under resourced families in San Francisco through a range of social
services including comprehensive case management, mental health,
and youth support. Services provided also include health education,
leadership development, and parent-child engagement. Due to the
Covid-19 pandemic all CARECEN staff continue to work remotely. Use
of office space is based on essential tasks in accordance with our
organization s Covid-19 protocols. Job Description The policy
coordinator position will be the lead for the implementation of a 3
year policy, systems and environmental change grant to develop
policy recommendations for improving health outcomes and health
equity in the Latinx community living in San Francisco. The HPP
policy coordinator will work under the direct supervision of the
HPP director. They will be responsible for the development and
implementation of a community assessment plan, including the
development of an outreach plan, creation of assessment tools and
the execution of interviews, focus groups and community briefings.
In addition, the policy coordinator will research existing policy
recommendations, analyze findings and develop a diverse range of
policy recommendations impacting the health of the Latinx
community, particularly around the decreased consumption of sugary
drinks. The HPP coordinator will be responsible for representing
the organization with funding partners and the Sugar Drinks
Distributor Tax Advisory Committee. Essential Duties: Create and
develop community assessment tools (i.e. surveys, focus groups,
interview scripts) Develop a plan to outreach and implement
community assessment tools with the Latinx community Train
promotoras on community assessment process & the implementation of
community assessment tools Conduct and analyze surveys, focus
groups, and interviews with diverse community stakeholders Track,
monitor and analyze local, state and federal legislation Provide
research, analysis and draft recommendations for a range of policy
issues impacting Latinx health & wellness, particularly around
chronic disease and type 2 diabetes Develop briefing materials and
reports, including legislative reports, one-page handouts & talking
points Develop & maintain strong working relationships with diverse
stakeholders from Latinx immigrant community, community-based
organizations, City departments and officials through meetings,
trainings, technical assistance & dissemination of public policy
information Facilitate community involvement in public policy work,
such as in state and local processes around policies and procedures
Draft comments, white papers & other documents in response to key
issues Lead strategic communications around priority issues &
internal/external stakeholders Create & develop new templates &
tracking systems using excel, google docs, etc. Other duties as
assigned by HPP director Qualifications B.A. degree (M.S. or M.A.
preferred) in public policy, health science and/or equivalent work
experience in the field of public policy 2 year minimum experience
working on local, state or federal legislative processes Experience
researching, analyzing and debriefing complex issues Demonstrated
ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders Experience working
in nonprofits, community-based collaborations and associations
Familiarity with local and state politicians, policy makers and
health equity stakeholders Ability to translate theoretical and/or
complex concepts into easily understood presentations Ability to
complete a project independently and in a team with minimal
supervision Passionate about Latinx health and wellness issues Must
be bicultural and bilingual in English and Spanish Understanding of
Latinx community needs Excellent communication skills and
interpersonal skills Demonstrates the ability to multitask, be
reliable and detail oriented Excellent writing and verbal
communication skills Able to meet deadlines and work efficiently
Experience working with MS Office, Excel, Google Calendars, Docs &
Hangouts, Zoom, and other virtual platforms and programs Ability to
maintain office operations, including maintaining systems and
