The University of California, Santa Cruz Chemical Screening Center
(UCSC-CSC) in the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department, invites
applications for a CSC Manager. The candidate will oversee daily
operations in the Center, reporting directly to the Screening
Center Director, Professor Scott Lokey. The major responsibilities
for this position will be to consult with users in the design and
implementation of high-throughput screens, helping to develop
strategic plans for scaling up benchtop screens and to evaluate the
feasibility of different approaches. The candidate will also assist
chemists in the formatting and archiving of chemical libraries, and
will also set up and run routine cytotoxicity assays in mammalian
cells. The CSC manager will interface directly with the Screening
Center users and will work with each user, in conjunction with the
Directors, to develop an efficient workflow for each screen. The
CSC Manager will also help maintain screening center hardware and
troubleshoot problems with instrumentation when they arise.
The CSC Manger will assist in the posting and enforcement of rules,
in the scheduling of instrumentation use, and will perform routine
upkeep and maintenance of equipment. The candidate will also help
train new users on the instrumentation and organize workflow to
maximize productivity. Interaction with faculty and numerous

conference, maintaining an organized and efficient center,
maintaining complete and accurate records of user activities for
recharge purposes, documenting operating and analytical procedures,

safety and security standards and procedures, purchasing necessary
supplies and services as well as tracking operating costs, training
back-up support in basic operations as required, and making
