Our client is a European full-service IP-law firm recognized internationally as a practice which cares deeply about the services it provides to its long-established clients. In over eighty years of practice, the firm has grown from a national player into an international full-service IP (intellectual property ) firm.

You will have an opportunity to join a non-hierarchical firm which is looking to you and your future colleagues in California to establish and build a strong professional reputation in the United States and on the West Coast. The role and your experience Our client is looking to appoint an experienced patent and trademark attorney, preferably at partnership level, to take a leading role in setting up, running and growing the new California office.
You will be managing the operations of the new office and play a key part in realizing our client's vision of the US operations. We intend to grow the California office to have two to three attorneys/agents and supporting staff. You will have a key role in guiding this growth. We are also open to discuss you bringing an another attorney/agent or paralegal with you. You will have responsibility to grow the firm's patent client base in the United States as well as building a trademark portfolio and being a conduit for US prosecution work from abroad. The culture of the team is business oriented, team-based and approachable and whilst the client growth and development are important elements, these are ancillary to the need to have the right attitude and enthusiasm to be part of an exciting phase in the firm's growth.
You should have:

- several years of experience working as a qualified patent and trademark attorney with the USPTO and California bar.
- some portable book of business to bring with you to be able to have a running-start when joining the practice -understanding of cultural differences -preferably some international experience -exposure to a broad network - creative and strategic thinking -proactive attitude, capable of taking initiative -be a team player with excellent leadership qualities -have high degree of independence and flexibility -demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills - understand the business implications of using IP
