Network Routing & Switching Protocols Software Development - Principal Engineer
Location: San Jose, CA / US Remote

Responsibilities

• Triage and resolve internal and customer-reported issues.
  
• Write feature specifications covering requirements and detailed designs.
  
• Implement improvements and new features individually or collaboratively.
  
• Evaluate and integrate third-party libraries.
  
• Conduct peer reviews of specifications, code, test plans, and documents.
  
• Enhance performance and scalability of existing features.
  
• Assist with interviews, onboarding, and mentoring new hires.
  
• Collaborate with customer and product teams to understand new requirements.
  
• Plan, schedule, track, and report project status to ensure timely delivery.
  
• Drive initiatives for quality and scalability of products and technologies.
  
• Participate in architecture and design of new engineering projects.
  
• Consider patent filings for innovations involved in our products.
  
• Engage in industry activities such as publishing papers, blogs, talks, and standards development.
  
  Education and Qualifications
  
  
• BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  
• Proficiency in high-quality C/C++, Go, or Python coding.
  
• 16+ years of hands-on development experience in areas such as:
  
• Design and development of large-scale control plane protocols (BGP, OSPF, ISIS, LDP MPLS).
  
• Design and development of Layer 2 technologies (STP, PVST, MSTP).
  
• Design and development of control plane infrastructure (TCP/IP, RIB, FIB, BFD, IPC, interfaces, events).
  
• Design and development of overlay technologies (L3VPN, EVPN, VxLAN).
  
• Segment Routing fabrics (SR-MPLS, SRv6).
  
• Troubleshooting large-scale deployments.
  
• Experience with model-based manageability frameworks using YANG, XML, JSON.

  Salary:
  $200,000 to $225,000 per year
