The Associate Library Director for Systems and Technical Services
is responsible for library technology and digital strategies and
will have knowledge of technological trends in research and
learning in the academic library setting. The Associate Director is
directly responsible for electronic resources management and
supervises staff in the areas of acquisitions, cataloging and
metadata, resource sharing, library systems, and digital
initiatives. This position collaborates with University colleagues
to determine how the Library can best support current, new, and
emerging research and library applications and knowledge systems
that will advance the University's vision, mission and strategic
plan. The Associate Director is expected to be strategic and
innovative to move the Library and its technology and digital
strategies forward in a rapidly changing environment of research
and education. This position will advise and work with the
University Librarian to develop and manage the Library budget, and
in all Library assessment and strategic planning activities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
Keep abreast of emerging trends in academic library technologies,
and make recommendations to the Dean of Research and Academic
Support that affect the strategic direction of the Library, in
alignment with the University's strategic plan.Plan, implement, and
adopt new library technologies and services.Explore, plan,
implement innovations and opportunities in resource
sharing.Supervise and lead Library IT, Metadata, Acquisitions,
Interlibrary Services, and Digital Initiatives.Review, evaluate,
and develop policies and staff workflows with an eye toward
increasing efficiencies and better supporting students and
faculty.Participate in recruitment, hiring, and training of new
library staff.Regularly assess technical services, and lead data
collection and analysis for evidence-based decision making.Develop
and manage budget for electronic resources, library systems and
technical services, in collaboration with and under supervision of
University Librarian.Represent CIIS in library consortia,
professional organizations, and participate in local, regional,
national, global library initiatives and projects.Assumes full
responsibility of library operations in the Dean's absence.
Electronic Resources
Manage the life cycle of our electronic resources in library
systems.Review, negotiate, and manage licensing agreements.Maintain
data in the electronic resources management system, ROAM+,
including adding vendor, license, access rights, and other
information related to the library's electronic
resources.Collection and analysis of usage data, and other tasks
related to the management of the Library's electronic resources
collection.Liaise and maintain relationships with library vendors
and other cooperatives.
Systems and Technologies
Manage all technological functions of the library and actively seek
new solutions to improve library processes and services.Ensure that
existing and future library systems and applications are compatible
and integrated and will integrate with the SIS and University
technical infrastructure.Serve as the library's primary technology
liaison with the IT department.Oversee technical and metadata
workflows for all library staff and ensure that library staff are
adequately supported and provisioned with hardware, software, and
technical training.
Technical Services
Direct all Technical Services, supervising all technical service
staff.Work with technical staff to ensure that library information
resources are rapidly and accurately ordered, received, processed,
and described in the library's catalog and discovery
interfaces.Process renewal of serials, including analysis to make
recommendations for format changes, backfiles acquisitions,
retention, and de-duplication.Oversee resource sharing processes,
initiatives at the local, regional, and national levels, including
interlibrary loan, document delivery and cooperative programs.
Other Areas of Responsibility and Professional Development
As needed, assist patrons at Circulation Desk, chat, and serve as
backup for library colleagues.Participate in staff meetings,
planning, and problem-solving meetings; in general work as a member
of the Library team.Stay current with advances and concepts in
applicable library fields.Attend workshops and conferences related
to job responsibilities as staff development funds allow.Pursue
trainings and courses on product changes, technical advancements,
new concepts as needed.Keep position manual and operating
procedures up to date.Advise Library colleagues and the University
Librarian on developments in libraries and make recommendations for
actionable items when appropriate.Engage in leadership
opportunities and committees and other service work within Library,
University and external professional groups.Other tasks may be
assigned, and responsibilities may shift, in response to Library
needs and changes in the University (in specific) and higher
education (in general).
PM22 Job Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrate a commitment to access, equity, diversity, and

supporting academic technologies that reduce barriers and promote
scholarly engagement, learning, belonging, and success.ALA
accredited MLIS or equivalent advanced degree.Minimum 3 years of
progressively responsible professional experience in IT-related
project management in an academic library setting.Demonstrated
experience in implementing new technologies or services and
developing IT policies.Experience managing an ILS, ERMS, CMS, proxy
server, cloud-based/SaaS applications and institutional SIS
integration.Strong analytical and decision-making skills.Minimum 3
years of experience hiring, managing, and developing staff.Ability
to work collaboratively across the University to advance the
technology needs of the library and library users.Excellent
interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate clearly,
knowledgeably, professionally, and personably, both verbally and in
writing.Demonstrated ability to work independently, cooperatively,
and flexibly in a busy office, successfully balancing priorities
and multitasking.Collecting and interpreting data on usage, user
satisfaction, and institutional goals.Using MS Office Suite
(especially Excel, Outlook, and Teams).Comfort with ambiguity.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Experience using OCLC WMS or other integrated library system,
ROAM+, Springshare LibApps suite, EZProxy, Ellucian Colleague, or
equivalent SIS/higher education ERP.Knowledge of library
operations.Reference and instruction experience.Conversant with
Copyright law and current interpretations of Fair Use.Experience
working with assistive technology for accommodation and
accessibility.Demonstrated record of participation in relevant
professional associations and ongoing professional
development.Experience working with a larger campus information and
computing group.Experience working in a consortia of libraries.
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Occasional work performed alone with ability to work remotely from
time-to-time. Collaboration and constant work around and with other
people.
SCHEDULE
Full time/40 hours week. Minimum 3 days/week on campus. Some
evening and weekend hours may occasionally be required.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES
This position requires attention to detail, good memory, ability to
work under deadline pressure, sitting and standing for long periods
of time, oral and written communication, keyboarding for
significant portions of the workday, pushing, pulling, bending,
stooping, reaching, patience, and tact to perform the essential
functions in a library setting.
LOCATION
FLEX: 3 days/week on campus, and onsite as needed for events and
with seasonal demand, and possible flex to more remote when classes
are not in session. Additional Information:WAGES AND BENEFITS
Salary range: $84,000-$94,000 and a competitive benefits
package.
