Come join us.Posting Open Date: 12/12/24Anticipated Posting Close Date*: 3/1/25*Job posting may close early due to the volume of applicants.Senior Counsel, Employment LawThe Fastly Law Team is looking for an attorney to serve as an advisor and partner to the People Team, providing employment and benefit legal advice. The ideal candidate will have solid foundational law firm training in labor law with practical experience addressing and resolving the employment issues that U.S. based, global and rapidly scaling companies face. The position will be based in San Francisco, where Fastly's headquarters is located, and report to the General Counsel who is based in New York City.What You'll Do:

• Advise on all North American employment and benefit related legal matters, providing the Law and People Teams guidance to drive compliance with applicable labor and employment laws.
• Strategically advise the People team on sensitive and time-sensitive employee matters, such as discipline and terminations, internal investigations, and leaves and accommodations and negotiate with third parties as necessary.
• Promote compliance by proposing, in consultation with the People team, updates or new employee policies and procedures, and trainings, and advise on their implementation, application and enforcement.
• Manage employment or contractor-related template agreements.
• Stay current on changing employment laws and advise the People team on all necessary policy and practice modifications including providing the People team regular updates and training on legal developments.
• Supervise outside counsel on employment or benefits issues requiring law firm support.What We're Looking For:
  • JD degree with strong academic credentials and admitted to practice law in California.
  • 8+ years of combined employment law experience, including law firm employment law practice and at least 2 years of in-house legal experience, especially at high-growth tech companies.
  • Robust experience independently counseling a human resources team on complex day-to-day employment issues.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • High attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills; excellent judgment in raising issues and ability to assess risks, and convey clear and decisive advice to internal colleagues.We'll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:Experience with compensation and benefits programs for public companies, including equity plans and executive compensation.Work Hours:This position will require you to be available during core business hours.Work Location & Travel Requirements:This position is open to the following preferred office locations:Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.
