Department Description

The Department of Pharmaceutical Services provides a full range of services for patients cared for by UCSF Medical Center as well as its providers and payors. These services include, but are not limited to, drug procurement, storage, and security; safe, accurate, and timely preparation and distribution of drugs; clinical pharmacy services for patients; development of patient drug use policies within the Parnassus and Mount Zion Campuses; drug information services for clinicians and patients; and participation in technology assessment and quality assurance programs.

The Department encompasses with the UCSF Department of Clinical Pharmacy, an academic unit within the School of Pharmacy which has primary responsibility for teaching professional courses in the PharmD curriculum, research, and public service.

The Department of Clinical Pharmacy and Department of Pharmaceutical Services share its philosophy of pharmaceutical care.

Job Summary

As members of the health care team, the Staff Pharmacists share responsibility for providing high quality, cost-effective patient care which promotes health.

This includes evaluating and managing drug regimens for appropriateness of choice; teaching patients and their caregivers how to use drugs in the safest and most effective way; helping patients and their caregivers take an active role in managing their drug therapy; and advocating for patients the safe and effective use of drugs to other health care decision makers.

This position will be located at a Satellite location in San Mateo County.

Required Qualifications

* Experience in a hospital setting; may include one year residency in hospital or clinical pharmacy practice and/or one year supervisory; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

* The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations

Preferred Qualifications

* Pharm.D. Degree

* Completion of an ASHP- accredited residency and/or fellowship

Licensure/Certification

* Current license to practice Pharmacy in the State of California; must be in good standing with the California State Board of Pharmacy

* Active American Heart Association CPR Certification

Work Environment

* Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways. Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture.

* Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility.

* Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.

* Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.

* Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.
