Job Description:

The Radiation Therapist, also known as an RT(T), is a health care professional that is responsible for administering radiation therapy with precision and accuracy under the direction of the radiation oncologist. The Radiation Therapist provides excellent customer service and care to our patients, and they often serve as the primary liaison between patients and other members of the health care team based on their daily interactions with patients. This person is sensitive to the needs of the patient and uses good communication as well as patient assessment and monitoring skills. The Radiation Therapist possesses and maintains a working knowledge of radiation protection and safety, radiation oncology techniques, radiation physics, and human anatomy. The Radiation Therapist is a critical thinker who uses independent, professional, and ethical judgements in all aspects of their work. In addition to administering radiation therapy treatments, the general patient care duties of the Radiation Therapists may include performing quality assurance, patient simulation, scheduling, fabrication of immobilization, documentation in the medical record, simple dosimetry calculations, and after hours on call patient care. Additionally, the Radiation Therapist also is an active participant in quality and process improvement activities in the department.

Radiation Therapists use radiation for cancer treatment that may come from (1) a machine outside the body (external-beam radiation therapy) or (2) from radioactive material placed in the body near tumor cells (internal radiation therapy or brachytherapy).



  • **Must be willing to travel to and work in all Radiation Therapy locations within the Stanford Network***


    This position could have an alternative work schedule. An alternative work schedule could be a 4 day-10hr work week or a 5 day-8hr work week depending on the need of the Stanford Radiation Oncology Network.

    Education: Requirement met by License/Certification requirement.

    Experience: At least one (1) year of experience as an ARRT registered Radiation Therapist (preferred),

    License/Certification:

    1) BLS - - Basic Life Support (for Healthcare Providers) certification card issued by the American Heart Association.

    2) ARRT-RTT - - Certificate in Radiation Therapy by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.

    3) CRT - - Therapeutic Radiologic Technologist Certificate issued by the State of California, Department of Public Health.
