Through application of the nursing process, the RN provides direct care and implements plans for continuity and coordination of patient care with other members of the patient?s health care team.In collaboration with the AN, the RN provides appropriate guidance and supervision for ancillary nursing personnel and participates in orientation of new medical and/or technical personnel. Responsibilities include compliance with Medical Center and departmental Policies and Procedures, Environmental Safety, House and Telephone Standards, compliance with all regulatory agency requirements. The position may involve travel between UCSF Radiation Oncology sites.The hours are generally day time but may vary with start times from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and end times may vary from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The position may occasionally involve a few hours of on-call at the end of each day. This role will be primarily at our Mission Bay Campus working four 10-hour days M-F in our new HDR Procedure Suite.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with a passionate group of physicians who are a pleasure to work with. This procedure is moving from the OR to the RadOnc department and will consolidate several workflows. This should improve the patient experience by decreasing the overall length of the procedure. The RN will perform pre-procedure screening/assessments; assist the Anesthesiologist and the Radiation Oncologist during the procedure; and recover the patient for discharge home or admission.

Ideal candidates will have a procedural, PACU, or ICU skill set/background. The procedure suite is expected to open in Summer 2019. There is also an opportunity for an earlier hire to help coordinate the opening of this space working with other departments from Periop, Anesthesia, to Infection Control. In addition to the HDR procedure, the nurses support the daily radiation patients by managing their side effects, dressing changes, teaching, explaining, advocating for the patients? needs, answering questions, navigating them to the appropriate providers, and providing emotional support. Many patients come daily M-F for several weeks, and the nurses have opportunity to build therapeutic relationships with the patients. The work environment is a mix between ambulatory and procedural with some inpatients.?Qualifications:

  • Three years clinical experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) employed in acute care setting within the last three to five years
  • Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California
  • Active American Heart Association CPR certification
  • Active American Heart Association ACLS certification
  • ICU, PACU, Endoscopy, or other similar procedural area experience or background
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to interact on an interpersonal level with patients and staff
  • Ability to deal with issues related to death and dying
  • Basic computer skills including, use of email, internet, navigating windows, and ability to learn various computer systems such as EPIC, Mosaiq and other clinical tools
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations?Preferred Qualifications:
