Job Summary Nursing Staff provides direct nursing care to adult patients presenting with the full spectrum of psychiatric diagnosis admitted to the Langley Porter Psychiatric Hospital and Clinics' locked adult inpatient unit. Under general supervision of the charge nurse on assigned shift and the nursing manager, implements established nursing interventions utilizing current clinical knowledge of psychiatric and medical illnesses nurse also evaluates and documents the results of these interventions for a given patient population. This includes taking nursing histories from patients and/or others that identify common variables affecting care, writing and evaluating nursing care plans and teaching patients and families about illness/symptom management. Position provides on-site clinical oversight for Clinical Nurse I & II, including Per Diem, Licensed Vocational Nurses, Licensed Psychiatric Technicians, unlicensed assistive personnel, and Registry Staff. Competently assumes charge in the absence of the Clinical Nurse III. Nursing care is provided primarily on the Inpatient Unit, but interacts with other Intensive Service programs at LPPH & C such as Partial Hospitalization Program, Intake, Utilization Management, Consult Liaison Service, and UCSF Medical Center personnel for patient referrals, patient care, admissions, etc. Required Qualifications One year recent inpatient hospital experience Six months psychiatric experience Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California Active American Heart Association CPR Certification Active Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training within six months of hire Lifting more than 50lbs, bending, twisting (not a sedentary position) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Demonstrated excellent attendance and reliability Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance in the duties assigned to the position The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Health locations Preferred Qualifications BSN Certified in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing by the ANCC Active Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training Experience with electronic health record in healthcare setting Knowledge of California Mental Health Holds (LPS) Licensure/Certification Active Registered Nurse licensure in the State of California Active American Heart Association CPR Certification Active Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training within six months of hire Living Pride Standards Service Excellence Demonstrates service excellence by following the Everyday PRIDE Guide with the UCSF Medical Center standards and expectations for communication and behavior. Exhibits team work skills to positively acknowledge and recognize other colleagues, and uses personal experiences to model and teach Living PRIDE standards. Exhibits tact and professionalism in difficult situations according to PRIDE Values and Practices Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies and procedures related to Protected Health Information (PHI) or other sensitive and personal information. Demonstrates an understanding of and adheres to safety and infection control policies and procedures. Assumes accountability for improving quality metrics associated with department/unit and meeting organizational/departmental targets. Work Environment Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways. Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture. Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility. Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows. Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments. Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft. The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.
