The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) position works with our highly automated testing platform to process patient samples. Our CLS staff use their training, experience, and judgement to ensure all patient samples are processed according to the highest standards of quality and accuracy. The CLS position functions as a mentor and guide for our unlicensed Production Laboratory Scientists and CGMBS Trainees. The CLS position also assists our assay and hardware development teams with development and validation of new instruments and assays. Responsibilities: Following Standard Operating Protocols, relevant regulations, and directives of the lab leadership team, a CLS will:

  • Work in a team environment and independently as necessary
  • Process patient samples using our automated platform using independent judgement with minimal supervision
  • Perform setup, teardown, and preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment
  • Perform quality control procedures
  • Prepare reagents for use on laboratory equipment
  • Archive and retrieving patient samples
  • Work with our engineering team to troubleshoot instrument issues
  • Document any procedure deviations or instrumentation malfunctions
  • Communicate with co-workers to ensure smooth and efficient workflow
  • Perform qualification protocols for recently repaired instruments
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correcting the problems or immediately notifying the laboratory leadership team
  • Follow protocols and document corrective actions taken when instruments deviate from established performance specifications
  • Assist the R&D teams in the development and validation of new instrumentation or assays (not a primary function of the position)
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies Qualifications and Experience: A successful CLS candidate will possess:
    • A valid clinical laboratory scientist license or clinical genetics molecular biology scientist license issued by the State of California
    • A BS or BA degree in a chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
    • Experience with laboratory operations and procedures
    • Accurate pipetting skills
    • A working understanding of good laboratory practices and regulatory compliance
    • The ability to adapt and be flexible in a fast-paced and evolving work environment
    • The ability to work diligently with minimal supervision
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Basic computer proficiency
