CIIS' Community Mental Health program was the first of its kind and
developed in partnership
with public and non-profit mental health agencies in the San
Francisco Bay Area. The program is
one of five programs offered through the Counseling Psychology
department at CIIS. Its
dynamic coursework integrates the fundamentals of psychotherapy
with cultural humility and
an understanding of the impact of trauma and social systems on
individuals, couples, families,
and communities. The program's flexible weekend format allows
working individuals to
maximize educational outcomes and maintain a healthy work/life
balance. Graduates are
prepared to practice counseling in hospitals, clinics, schools,
government agencies, community
non-profits, and more. Through ongoing work in community settings,
CIIS faculty help to ensure
that the program design continues to meet the needs of community
agencies. The hands-on
work also helps strengthen the ties the University has to
organizations that are potential
employers of our graduates.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Program Chair
The program chair is the academic and administrative leader of the
program. As such,
the role of the program chair combines collaborative leadership
skills with
organizational visioning and implementation involving matters of
curriculum,
coordination with the MCP Director and the CA Board of Behavioral
Sciences, academic
and nonacademic personnel actions and evaluation, budget and
expenditures, and
planning and evaluation of outcomes. The program chair is
responsible for the use of all
program resources to achieve goals and objectives identified
through established
program and University processes. They are responsible for
communicating the
program's needs to the University administration. They are also
responsible for
communicating University policies and administrative procedures to
the program faculty
and staff. Leadership and commitment in meeting the instructional,
research, service,
and developmental goals of the program is essential.
Responsibilities:
Foster an environment that encourages and supports
facultydevelopment and creativity within the goals and objectives
of theprogram and University.Coordinate program planning and
development and the initiatives thatarise out of those processes.
Convene program meetings.Supervise the evaluation of program
faculty and staff as required bypersonnel procedures.Supervise the
recruitment of faculty and staff in accordance withprogrammatic
needs and budgetary parameters, and in keeping with theUniversity
mandate for diversity.Encourage currency and improvement in the
quality of the program'scurriculum and coordinate the plan for the
2-year cycle of courseofferings.Coordinate program's student
advising and mentoring efforts. ? Heargrievances from faculty and
students (as specified in section VIII"Grievance procedures" in
this Handbook, and in the student handbook).Coordinate program
faculty workload assignment. Page 48Ensure that the program's
instructional schedules are submitted asrequired and modified as
needed.Prepare and present the program's budget to University
authorities asappropriate. The department chair is responsible for
administration ofprogram resources.Coordinate the development,
implementation, and analysis of theprogram's evaluation of student
learning outcomes.Coordinate the self-study that is part of the
regular program reviewprocess.Assign and provide oversight for
program faculty working with theAdmissions Office to review
applicants for admission and recommendappropriate
action.Collaborate with The Clinic Without Walls (TCWOW) Clinical
DirectorConduct an assessment of TCWOWCollaborate with Admissions
to develop a recruitment strategy for theprogram.Partner with
Office of DEI in administration of grants and other fundsPerform
other duties as specified by the provost and/or other University
administrators and carry out assigned duties in accordance with
CIIS policy.Provide guidance and oversight for CMH's Clinic Without
Walls (TCWOW)that supports the academic program to ensure effective
coordinationwith its specific educational goals.Lead the initiative
to create a 2-credit pre-practicum based in peerrecovery principles
and practices.
Core Faculty
18 workload units, including a minimum of 6 units of release for
administrative work and 6 teaching units.
PM22 Job Requirements:QUALIFICATIONS
PhD preferredMinimum of 3 years of teaching experience in higher
education.Minimum of 5 years of experience working in community
mental health settingsincluding experience with peer recovery
principles and practicesMinimum of 3 years of strong, demonstrated
collaborative leadership skillsProven track record of commitment to
diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Occasional work performed alone with ability to work remotely from
time-to-time.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES
This position requires attention to detail, good memory, ability to
work under deadline
pressure, sitting and standing for long periods of time, oral and
written communication,
keyboarding for significant portions of the workday, pushing,
pulling, bending, stooping,
reaching, patience, and tact to perform the essential
functions.
LOCATION
This is a primarily remote position; however, the candidate will
need to reside or relocate to the
San Francisco Bay area to collaborate with clinic operations. This
position additionally leads
and provides educational instruction during the on-campus cohort

Working Conditions - Duties are primarily performed in an office
environment at a deskor computer terminal, typically Monday through
