inpatient acuity adaptable unit (AAU) specializing in advanced lung
disease care.M6 highly values patient centered care that relies on
a team-based approach.We work cohesively with our
inter-disciplinary team including nurses, doctors, case managers,
occupational and physical therapists, speech therapists, social
workers, and dieticians, just to name a few. We strive to provide
safe and effective care while inpatient and promote smooth
transitions to discharge with extensive patient and family
education.We strongly believe in evidenced-based practice to
achieve the most comprehensive and contemporary care.Our nurses
receive education, training and skills validation throughout the
year.We promote excellence in nursing, with almost half of our
nurses holding national certifications in varying specialties
including PCCN, CWON and CCTN. We strive for nursing leadership
with a significant number of our nurses involved in varying
committees and councils both unit-based and hospital wide.The
primary patient population being cared for on M6 are patients who
have:Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

for further details.The Clinical Nurse (CN) is an RN who provides
hands-on care to patients, practicing in an evidence-based manner,
within the Scope of Practice of the California Nursing Practice
Act, regulatory requirements, standards of care, and hospital
policies. Within that role, the CN performs all steps of the
nursing process, including assessing patients; interpreting data;
planning, implementing, and evaluating care; coordinating care with
other providers; and teaching the patient and family the knowledge
and skills needed to manage their care and prevent complications.
The CN partners with the patient's family wherever possible,
considering all aspects of care, to deliver family centered care.
As a professional, monitors the quality of nursing care
provided.The Clinical Nurse is responsible for his/her own
professional development, including licensure, Basic Life Support
(BLS) certification, and maintaining current knowledge regarding
the assigned patient population.As a member of the nursing
profession, the Clinical Nurse contributes to the profession of
nursing through such activities as teaching others, sharing
