Job Description:
The Position
The Department of Translational Oncology in Genentech Research is
seeking a highly motivated Principal/ Sr Principal Scientist to
take on the exciting opportunity to lead a group of researchers
developing novel cancer therapies. The candidate should have a
strong basic understanding of the drivers of oncogenic progression
and the tumor interplay with the tumor microenvironment and immune
system. This role involves leading a team to explore therapeutic
responses, helping define mechanisms of action, elucidating
potential biomarkers, and identifying potential combinatorial
strategies using pre-clinical animal models. As such the ideal
candidate should be technically well-versed in the assessment of
potential therapeutics in animal models during drug development.
The successful candidate will work closely with other disciplines
within Genentech to drive research stage programs into early
clinical development, providing scientific and technical
leadership.
Summary of Key Responsibilities:
* Lead translational research group primarily supporting cancer
immunotherapy programs.
* Provide in vivo pharmacology expertise to project teams during
the discovery and development phases of biologics and small
molecule drug discovery programs.
* Define PK/PD/efficacy relationships in collaboration with
colleagues within DMPK and Research Oncology Discovery labs.
* Develop innovative preclinical animal models that enable
interrogation of mechanisms of action, diagnostic hypotheses, and
mechanisms of resistance.
* Management of up to 5 direct or indirect reports, including
Scientific Researchers and Scientific Supervisors. Develop and
assess goals of direct reports.
* Responsible for authoring documents to support regulatory
filings, patent applications and manuscripts published in
peer-reviewed journals.
Qualifications:
A PhD or MD/PhD with post-doctoral training or equivalent
experience in oncology, cell biology, immunology, or a related
field is required. Ideal candidates with have a minimum of 5 years
of research experience in oncology, preferably with experience in
both direct oncogenic-targeting approaches as well as
immune-oncology experience. The ideal candidate will have
demonstrated industry experience or academic achievement, as
evidenced by publications in high impact journals, presentations at
international conferences, patents, and/or direct involvement of
advancing molecules into clinical development. Candidates with
strong experience in tumor modeling (in vitro and in vivo),
assessment of therapeutic responses using a diverse array of
pharmacodynamics assays, high content biomarker assessments, and
experience in translational immunology are highly encouraged to
apply. The successful applicant will have a high level of
understanding of the basic oncogenic drivers and the interplay of
tumors with innate and adaptive immune mechanisms at play during
cancer development. Candidates are expected to have a strong sense
of scientific curiosity and desire to work effectively in a highly
collaborative setting. Candidates should have exceptional
communication skills and evidence of dedication to translating
basic research insights into therapeutics.
Relocation benefits are available for this job posting.
