Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Director, performs a variety of administrative and laboratory duties for Pacific Oral Pathology Laboratory ( POPL ). Essential Functions

  • Coordinate daily business operations of the laboratory including accurately entering cases, verifying/auditing patient demographic information including maintaining emailed radiographic and CBCT images, and clinical photographs to be saved with case.
  • Send completed pathology reports to contributing clinicians and consulting pathologists; assist pathologists with contributing clinicians and staff personnel interaction regarding biopsy reports and services.
  • Prepare business office related forms for accounts payable, include pathologist expense reimbursement.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with contributing doctors, staff personnel, other medical facilities and patients including insurance/billing questions.
  • Ordering/maintaining all necessary laboratory inventory.
  • Coordinate maintenance and certifications of laboratory equipment to include microscope and fume hoods.
  • Biopsy kit preparation including maintaining stock of biopsy bottles and mailing items, kit preparation, and mail-out to contributors as requested.
  • Receipt of biopsy mailers ( USPS , FedEx) and login of specimens with accession number to be assigned.
  • File slides and blocks after cases are signed out.
  • Coordinate proper storage/disposal of accessioned blocks and slides as needed.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Director. Minimum Qualifications Knowledge of:
    • Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel.
      Ability to:
      • Operate laboratory equipment.
      • Work with hazardous materials.
      • Record and communicate results clearly and accurately.
      • Utilize database system for entering, exporting, printing, billing and research.
        Experience:
        • Minimum one-year administrative support experience.
          Education:
          • High school diploma or equivalent.
            Working Conditions:
            • Position is full time, 37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week.
            • Occasional overtime may be required.
            • Occasional occupational exposure biohazardous materials may reasonably be anticipated. Personal protective equipment will be provided to reduce or eliminate exposure. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of:
              • Medical diagnostic coding system (i.e. ICD -10) and Current Procedural Terminology ( CPT ) helpful
              • Medical and dental terminology helpful
