Zymergen has an exciting opportunity for a Lab Coordinator. The Lab Coordinator will assist the lab operations team in supporting a variety of lab management tasks in efforts of optimizing safety, workflows, and efficiencies. Our Lab Coordinator will report to the Lab Operations Manager and work together in managing laboratories, including multi-use or shared laboratories. Job Description and Specific Responsibilities

  • Immediate responsibilities include:
  • Leading efforts to keep the labs organized and operating efficiently--
  • Assist with Sandbox introduction training and training lab users on the correct use of lab equipment--
  • Ensure that staff members comply with all laboratory rules and regulations, including health and safety policies
  • Assist with coordinating reviews and introduction of new chemicals/processes into lab, as well as, leading internal audits
  • Assist with weekly scheduling meetings and ensure scheduled equipment time is representative of its use.--
  • Coordinate with key business support partners for lab and equipment maintenance - Facilities, EHS, Lab Services, Media, Inventory Management, Automation
  • Assist with maintenance of the lab and equipment - inspection, calibration, testing, repair, and organization of the lab.--
  • Assist with tracking and reporting metrics and KPIs to drive performance improvements
  • Collect feedback from Room Owners and lab personnel on lab operations (on a regular basis) to help optimize use of the labs
  • Working with diverse automation platforms and molecular biology instrumentation--
  • Assist in setting up new labs and maintain high quality standards
  • Primary contact or outside vendors. If/when necessary, contact vendors to provide service as needed.
  • Respond to lab emergencies and other duties as required Qualifications/Experience Include education and years of experience required for this role. Include details on skills this candidate would need to have in past experience. Include details on experience that is nice-to-have.-- We prefer candidates that have worked in manufacturing environments, developed and used protocols, and worked within intensely collaborative teams. Lastly, we look for candidates that have displayed excellence and high achievement in previous technical and non-technical work.--
    • Working knowledge of safety in a lab environment
    • Flexible with changes in tasks--
    • Comfortable and adaptable with varying tasks correlated to the current need for each lab
    • Comfortable working in a lab environment
    • Familiarity working with LIMS, as well as, those built in house and those used broadly (e.g. google drive, google sheets, etc.) to track, analyze and share data.--
    • Ability to identify and troubleshoot issues and escalate as needed.
    • Experience creating, updating and following SOPs
    • Familiarity with GLP and GxP
    • Strong attention to detail
