Job Summary

Manages technical and administrative operations of the intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring department. Supports a wide variety of surgical procedures in which neural structures are at risk (including but not limited to neurosurgical, orthopedic, vascular, and OHNS procedures) by leading a team of neurophysicological monitoring specialists at the three UCSF campuses: Parnassus, Mount Zion, and Mission Bay. Is responsible for training and education of specialists, along with the senior specialists, for troubleshooting real-time technical and clinical issues in the operating room. Oversees supply chain and equipment needs of the department. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies. Implements changes to inter and intra department workflows and operational processes. Monitors administration of fiscal, material and human resources.

Required Qualifications

* Bachelor s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

* Graduate from a 2-year Neurodiagnostic technology training program, accredited by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation or equivalent combination of education and experience

* Certification in Neurophysiological Intraoperative Monitoring from ABNM or equivalent medical subspecialty

* 5+ years of experience of relevant neurodiagnostic function(s) and applied background. Knowledge of terms, concepts, and protocols

* Leadership skills in employee supervision/ management and HR administration to effectively lead and motivate others. Conflict resolution skills to resolve personnel issues and counsel assigned staff to develop cooperative working relationships

* Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a complex, challenging environment

* Ability to organize departmental operations in an efficient and effective manner through improving neurodiagnostic processes, procedures, and systems

* Interpersonal skills to maintain professional relationships with peers, patients, multidisciplinary team members, senior management, and assigned staff

* Ability to collaborate within and across departments to integrate daily patient care activities and resolve problems

* Solid understanding of internal neurodiagnostic information technology applications. Knowledge of available information technology software in the neurodiagnostic field

* The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center

Preferred Qualifications

* PhD or MD

* Knowledge of medical center, HR and UC policies and processes. Knowledge of relevant external regulations. Ability to apply policy knowledge to suggest improvements to compliance risks

* Specialized ABRET certification in one or more modalities

Licensure/Certification

* Certification in Neurophysiological Intraoperative Monitoring from ABNM or equivalent medical subspecialty

Work Environment

* Keeps working areas neat, orderly and clutter-free, including the hallways. Adheres to cleaning processes and puts things back where they belong. Removes and reports broken equipment and furniture.

* Picks up and disposes of any litter found throughout entire facility.

* Posts flyers and posters in designated areas only; does not post on walls, doors or windows.

* Knows where the Environment of Care Manual is kept in department; corrects or reports unsafe conditions to the appropriate departments.

* Protects the physical environment and equipment from damage and theft.

The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations is required.
