In this role, you will assume overall leadership of one of our summer day camp locations; managing and coaching staff, seamlessly overseeing day-to-day operations, and creating a joy-filled summer camp culture. YOU WILL

  • You'll be responsible for all aspects of daily camp operations and run an efficient and joy-filled program. You'll flex your creative problem-solving skills as you juggle competing priorities and anticipate the needs of your camp community with agility and positivity.
  • You'll collaborate with and cultivate a team of 10-50+ summer staff, coaching them toward success. You'll be a supportive manager with high expectations, providing feedback on classroom instruction and behavior management, while thoughtfully pushing your team to greatness in ways that have a ripple effect.
  • You'll create and build partnerships like a boss. As the face of Galileo in the community you serve, you'll consider parent and partner perspectives in everything you do. You'll wow our school partners with your care for camp facilities while consistently delivering exceptional service to our camper families.
  • You'll leverage existing (and carefully crafted) training and resources to masterfully manage your time and responsibilities, efficiently tracking your workflow details and calendar in the pre-season and throughout the summer.
  • With support from our People Ops team, you'll manage compliance processes, implement company policies, and uphold our camp safety standards. From supporting your team's onboarding completion and approving weekly timecards to daily site safety checks, you will meticulously execute and uphold company policies.
  • In collaboration with our headquarters team you'll ensure camp has all the necessary resources and supplies to run smoothly; developing effective systems for managing inventory and materials, keeping classrooms organized, and using your facility space to its full potential. YOU ARE

      • We anticipate total compensation for this role to range from $11,050 - $14,900:
      • While working full-time, for the Summer: $1350/ week (up to 8 weeks depending on the camp location)
      • While working part-time in the pre-camp season: $21/ hour (estimated 10 hours per week, February - early June)
      • Performance bonus: up to $500 based on job performance, paid at the close of the Summer
      • Returning Camp Directors who have previously held this position at Galileo Learning may be eligible for a modified compensation structure based on tenure, camp size, and geography, which may include additional bonus eligibility.

Camp Directors are given the tools, framework, community, and support to take ownership of and implement a fully-developed program.
      • Community. You'll become part of a current and former Galileo staff network of over 10,000 inspiring changemakers. Former Galileans stay connected, and have even gone on to create successful non-profit organizations together! LOCATION Pre-camp: With the exception of weekend retreats and occasional events, most pre-camp season work is done remotely, but must be done from one of the employable states, listed above.Summer: When it comes to camp assignments, we take your location preferences into consideration, and have an ongoing, open dialogue about location options throughout the process. You'll be placed at one of our 70+ sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Southern California, Chicago, Seattle, or Denver.We are only able to employ candidates who are based in the following states: California, Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, or Washington. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.         • Some lifting and carrying up to 60 lbs.
        • Regularly operate a computer (including typing and reading)
        • Constantly seeing, hearing, and communicating in person, virtually, and from a range of distances
        • Use hands and fingers to help with classroom supplies and operate equipment
        • Frequently remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, sitting or standing
        • Regularly move about campsites, walking, kneeling, or standing for extended periods of timeQualifications
          • 3+ years of work experience in K-8 education, or a combination of relevant collegiate coursework and work experience
          • Minimum of 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience and ability to coach educators toward success- management experience a plus!
          • Ability to work collaboratively with an openness to feedback and a desire to grow professionally
          • Ability to work part-time, remotely, starting in January 2024 (8-12 hours per week), and full-time, on-site, starting in June 2024
          • Ability to travel to two onsite training events during the pre-camp season
          • Ability to maintain an excellent work ethic, a high level of energy, and exceptional enthusiasm each day
          • Flexibility to meet changing needs and demands while balancing multiple priorities
          • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
          • Great communication skills, both written and verbal
          • Valid CPR/First Aid certification OR ability to become certified prior to the start of camp
