OVERVIEWFounded in 1948, the San Francisco Foundation is one of the
nation's largest community foundations - a grantmaking public
charity dedicated to improving life within a specific local region.

change to build strong communities, foster civic leadership, and
promote philanthropy in the San Francisco Bay Area.POSITION SUMMARY
The following sections are designed based on the Results Based
Leadership for Racial Equity Framework that the Foundation uses to
accomplish our work.RoleThe Director, Department of the CEO is an
internal and external facing position that supports overall
organizational effectiveness and impact. Internally, the role
supports the CEO and Department of the CEO in acting as a thought
partner for key organizational action plans. The position also
provides support to the CEO regarding key external activities to
enhance both scale and effectiveness of the Office of the CEO and
achieve the goals of the CEO and Foundation. The person in the
position must have flexibility in schedule and skills to adapt to
the changing culture and needs of the Foundation.BoundariesThe
person in the position represents the CEO with authority to make
decisions in external meetings, participates in standing and ad-hoc
committees, community and governmental agencies, and in other
external meetings as needed. The person in the position creates,
nurtures and utilizes networks of people inside and outside of the
Foundation to gather and synthesize information and resources in
support of providing the CEO information to share with internal and
external stakeholders and stepping in for the CEO as needed to
share such information.AuthorityThe person in the position, triages
issues on behalf of the Department of the CEO, negotiating
solutions to complex problems, and handling confidential and
sensitive issues. Oversees a strategic calendaring and engagement
process, in close collaboration with the CEO's Executive Assistant,
to ensure sufficient attention is directed to key strategic
priorities and key constituencies, both within and outside the
foundation. Supports the CEO by applying for grantsrelated to the
Department of the CEO and managing the budgets associated with any
approved departmental grants, adhering to sound fiscal policy and
practices. Partners with the Operations team to execute contracts
on behalf of the Department of the CEO.Works closely with the
Executive Assistant to ensure that the CEO is well informed and
briefed in advance of meetings and other engagements. With the
Marketing and Communications team, drafts internal and external
messages, Op-Eds, talking points for the CEO's speaking
engagements, and formulates sensitive responses to complex issues.
Participating with executives in short- and long-term strategic
planning with organization-wide impact.Additional TasksCEO Support
and Strategy:Strategic Planning & CEO Support:Provides ongoing
support and advising to CEO related to internal and external
strategies and approaches that will enable the Foundation to
advance its equity agenda.Attends weekly staff meetings and reports
highlights and potential action steps to the CEO.Works with CEO and
Management Team, participate in the development of goals,
priorities, strategies and related metrics for the Foundations
organizational priorities.Partners with internal stakeholders in
the development and delivery of the Learning Together internal
learning curriculumSpeaking, Community and Written
Engagements:Participates in select departmental meetings gathering
key data that can be incorporated into talking points grounded in
the work of the San Francisco Foundation to share with internal and
external audiences.Attends all prep planning sessions for upcoming
engagements, distills information including the central theme or
framework of the event, key issues, deliverables and expectations
and provides guidance to CEO. Meets with additional stakeholders as
needed.Develops content for speaking engagements and collaborates
with the Marcom department as needed for brand awareness and
messaging.Serves as a proxy for the CEO as appropriate in meetings
and events and helps scale the CEO's role by supporting
communication, follow-up and execution for discrete
projects.Provides support to the CEO for development and
maintenance of key partnerships, attendance and follow up on
meetings, fielding speaking requests and speech preparation,
partnering with Executive Assistant on external scheduling
requests, and facilitating internal communications.Provides support
for donor engagements as needed and fields external programmatic
requests.Develops and maintains relationships with grantee,
community leaders and other stakeholders. Plays multiple roles
(convenor, grant maker, advocate, investor, etc.).Ensures that the
CEO is prepared for ongoing advisory, board and community
engagement work with external partners by gathering research and
other data, preparing speaking notes and ensuring any deliverables
are met.Reviews and provides feedback/questions on documents,
minutes or meeting materials in conjunction with the guidance of
the CEO.Listens and supports the CEO in brainstorming ideas and
experiences to help navigate complex challenges.--Competencies &
Qualifications5+ years of experience in a business or operational
leadership roleExperience collecting data and deriving insights
from cross functional resourcesSolid business acumen, critical
thinking, problem solving, and organizational skills, including
ability to distill complex issues into structured frameworks and
action plansSelf-starter with a team-oriented work style. Ability
to build credibility and relationships quickly across
teamsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsTrustworthy
with high integrity and the ability to maintain appropriate
confidentialityKnowledge of the bay area philanthropic and SFF
grantee landscapeHigh level of emotional intelligence with the
ability to navigate across a diverse landscape of people and

When determining compensation at the Foundation, we consider total
compensation including base wage, variable pay, discretionary and
legally required medical and fringe benefits, education and
