DAY & HOURS: A This is a full-time position that requires being in the Clinic Monday through Friday during normal business hours and additional hours as needed. BASIC FUNCTION AND SCOPE OF JOB: The Womens Employment Rights Clinic at Golden Gate University School of Law in San Francisco is seeking a Clinic Director with significant experience in: (1) substantive employment knowledge including wage and hour law and discrimination/harassment/retaliation; (2) litigating in court and/or administrative forums; (3) working with low-income communities, immigrant communities and/or vulnerable populations; (4) working collaboratively with community based organizations; (5) past clinical teaching or extensive past experience supervising law students; and (6) fundraising and administrative management. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: As the lead faculty member of the Clinic, the Director develops the curriculum and accompanying syllabus, and teaches a weekly seminar based upon the syllabus, including clinic case rounds. The seminar includes skills training, relevant substantive law analysis, as well as investigation of relevant socio-economic and political issues related to workers rights. The Clinic Director will directly supervise the staff which includes a clinical supervising attorney and an administrative assistant. The Director is also expected to supervise clinic students in the performance of their duties. The Clinic strives to have no greater than a 6:1 student faculty ratio to ensure proper supervision. The Clinic Director is expected to develop and maintain relationships with community-based organizations in the Bay Area, who refer potential clients and may rely upon the Clinic for a variety of legal services. In addition, the Director is required to raise sufficient funds for the Clinic budget, using a combination of attorneys fees from successful litigation, foundation grants, and individual or law firm donors, including cy pres contributions. The Director, as a member of the law school faculty, will also be expected to perform regular faculty duties including participation and voting at faculty meetings, participation on faculty committees, support for law school recruitment efforts, and outreach to the law school and broader legal community through participation in conferences and panels. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bar membership in California
  • Experienced litigator with substantial employment law experience, preferably in wage and hour and/or discrimination/harassment/retaliation
  • Prior clinical teaching experience and/or experience in supervising law clerks strongly preferred
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring and working with students in a law school setting
  • Demonstrated fundraising experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with culturally and economically diverse groups
  • Connection with or capacity to develop connections with local, statewide and national worker organizations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • High degree of professionalism in all aspects of lawyering, including in dealings with staff, colleagues, and opponents, and managing a demanding but flexible schedule
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Advocacy experience on policy matters and/or community education preferred
  • For Tenure-Track: Potential for significant research and writing in traditional legal scholarship publication, or publication for the practicing bar and/or related to litigation.
