The PositionThe Research Informatics and Software Engineering
Department (RI&SE) within Genentech Research and Early
Development (gRED) seeks a Senior Informatics Systems Analyst or a
Senior Software Engineer to lead software development efforts
supporting lab automation within the Research organization at
Genentech. You will play a critical role in delivering
transformational software that enables the discovery of
life-changing therapies. You will be responsible for understanding
the needs of our scientists, who convert research discoveries into
novel medicines, and collaborate to develop a comprehensive
ecosystem of applications and tools to record, organize, store,
secure, and access data in meaningful ways. You will understand how
IT systems fit our scientific business needs based upon internal
and external business opportunities, define product vision, elicit
requirements for new systems development, direct software teams
with implementation, and monitor effectiveness. You will
collaborate closely with both our project stakeholders and
technical leads to gather user stories, design applications, and
guide the functionality of IT systems across the full software
development lifecycle by leveraging your specialized expertise
and/or deep knowledge of the domain to solve complex problems with
innovative solutions. You will ensure that our solutions fit
appropriately into our information ecosystem and ensure the
integrity of our data architecture. Applicants should have an agile

will satisfy many of the following requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher, with applicable experience in
product management, business analysis, or software engineering
- Significant scientific and/or laboratory experience, especially
related to drug development.
- At least 10 years of experience working as a product manager,
business analyst, or software engineer involved in all phases of
the software development process, including: requirements
gathering, design, implementation, testing, release, and
maintenance.
- Relevant experience working closely with scientific and
informatics stakeholders to understand their informatics needs, and
subsequently defining complex system requirements, scope,
objectives, and key results in the context of larger organizational
goals.
- Ensure we are bringing the greatest value to our team and our
collaborators by working with the team to properly align and
prioritize work with our key stakeholders.
- Engage with scientific stakeholders to understand complex
workflows (both 'as-is' and 'to-be'), and direct efforts to
harmonize and optimize business processes across teams and business
units to reduce the complexity of software solutions.
- Experience in documenting detailed software requirements, user
stories, business, and/or software specifications for both custom
and Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) systems.
- Ability to collaborate with lab automation engineers and
software engineers to translate lab automation processes to
detailed software requirements.
- Experience organizing and directing large, globally
distributed, and agile software development teams, either as a
Product Owner, Technology Lead, or Group Leader to solve complex,
high-risk problems with innovative solutions.
- Experience working in a life sciences or biopharmaceutical
environment such as early-stage research, drug discovery, or other
biological sciences discipline is preferred.
- Demonstrated success working initiatives of high complexity,
uncertainty, and risk with minimal guidance and direction.
- Able to effectively build trust, manage, inspire, and influence
globally distributed and cross-functional teams.
- Able to present your work, both verbally and in writing, to
diverse audiences including scientific stakeholders, technical
teams, as well as research leadership.Relocation benefits are
available for this position.The expected salary range for this
position based on the primary location of California is $141,500 -
$202,200. Actual pay will be determined based on experience,
qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors
permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available
based on individual and Company performance. This position also
