Leadership Position Overview:
The Director of Middle School will support instructional leadership for 6-8th grade teachers and staff. They will be responsible for the organizational management and operation of middle school in assigned areas, including social-emotional well being while collaborating with the administration, staff and teachers.
LEADERSHIP DUTIES:
Teacher/Staff

  • Assist in providing leadership for the development, implementation, and supervision of instructional programs and curriculum of the middle school.
  • Assist in supervising and coaching instruction
  • Oversee middle school teachers and provide a structure for accountability -
  • Ensuring teachers are integrating the arts within our hands-on, project-based learning in collaboration with the Director of Arts
  • Providing organizational management for weekly middle school meetings
  • Provide professional staff development in collaboration with the administrative team
  • Assist in the evaluation and supervision of middle school teachers
    Student -
    • Develop a system for recognizing student achievement
    • Provide discipline for grades 6-8, lead Restorative Meetings when necessary
    • Provide conflict resolution for middle school students -
    • Network with after-school programs to support students
    • Assist in counseling students on behavior and expectations, holding class meetings when necessary
    • Celebrating student successes
    • Collaborate with 5th-grade teachers on student transition into middle school
      Community
      • Establish, coordinate and maintain communication with the community and parent/guardians
      • Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others
      • Understand and resolve issues, complaints or concerns
      • Ensure a safe and clean school facility, and uphold a Peaceful School culture
      • Implement Schoology for school-wide communication
      • Networking with organizations within the community to help support our program
      • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
      • Interpret educational programs to community
      • Be the liaison between teachers, students and community
        Administrative -
        • Essential Duties (assigned by the Executive Director)
        • Assist in the planning, development, organization, coordination, and supervision of instructional programs and activities, which includes curriculum development, and socio-emotional program -
        • Develop and ensure the implementation of the school's behavior policies and procedures; evaluate the effectiveness of the procedures and keep students, staff and parents informed of changes
        • Develop the master schedule of classes and student assignment of classes in collaboration with the Leadership team
        • Assist in the development of performance objectives relating to expected standards of student academic achievement
        • Oversee high school transition process
        • Participate in a minimum of two 6th grade orientations, coordinate student panel and materials
        • Planning and executing middle school graduation
        • Oversee Advisory Program and provide staff development to support curriculum
        • Assist in organizing parent conferences, back-to-school nights, and other community events in collaboration with Leadership Team
        • Managing the middle school calendar and communicating upcoming events to the community
        • Ensuring new students and families are given information in a timely manner, managing their entrance into the school
        • Knowledge of middle school budget, as well as school budget and administer as desired or advised
          QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:Education:
          • An appropriate California credential authorizing service as an administrator, or enrollment in an Administrative Program
          • An appropriate California teaching or services credential
          • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
          • Master's degree is desirable
            Required Experience:
            • Minimum of five years successful teaching or credentialed service experience
            • Appropriate leadership roles in education
              Desired Experience:
              • Experience at a diverse, progressive K-8 school (charter school experience highly desirable)
              • Demonstrate experience in arts curriculum development and in building inclusive multicultural learning communities
              • Restorative Justice approach and community building skills
              • Demonstrate ability to achieve equitable artistic outcomes -
