Job Description:

Job DescriptionThis role is fully remote, we set a location because some job boards require it. The RoleKasa is seeking an accomplished and dynamic senior leader who will be the P&L owner for the Western half of Kasa's rapidly growing US portfolio of multifamily short-term rental apartments, boutique hotels, and apartment-hotel properties. As a key member of Kasa's leadership team, you will be responsible for working with premiere real estate partners to offer Kasa guests a hospitality experience with the quality of an established hospitality brand, the comfort of a fully furnished short term rental apartment, and the efficiency and ease of one of the world's most tech-enabled stays. As Regional Director, you will be the ultimate point of accountability for delivering great guest stays, financial results, and operational outcomes across a large and growing set of properties. This role requires substantial leadership and management experience, a pragmatic but data-driven approach to problems, and a creative and entrepreneurial spirit. About the TeamThis role sits within Kasa's Operations leadership team and reports directly to the Vice President of Operations. You will lead a team of Portfolio General Managers and work in close partnership with the Eastern Regional Director, as well as leaders overseeing Kasa's Launch Operations and Hospitality Operations (including our centralized Guest Experience team). You will sit on Kasa's overall leadership team as well and contribute to work across many other functions within the business. As Kasa's portfolio continues to grow, you will ensure that your portfolio teams remain appropriately staffed and that the bar for talent is high, whether at the General Manager level or at the local field team and housekeeping partner level. Day in the life of a Portfolio Ops Regional DirectorYour region spans dozens of individual metro areas and includes markets where Kasa has hundreds of operating units and others where Kasa has less than ten. Your role is to manage the complexities of Kasa's highly distributed operation and to ensure that no matter what the on the ground situation, Kasa is able to achieve its four main operating goals:

  • Ensure that every Kasa guest has a five-star stay. Establishing and driving dependable standards of quality, whether for cleanliness, Kasa's technology, or communication and guest support. You will work with your own portfolio teams as well as Kasa's centralized teams to sustain high quality where it exists, and drive towards improved quality where there is still work to do.
  • Achieve financial outcomes for the portfolios in the region. You will need to be an expert in Kasa's unique P&L and financial structures and work with your GMs to be vigilant and creative to drive revenue and cost performance at each property. You will help communicate and explain unusually positive or negative financial performance and help to inform better property underwriting and budgeting assumptions as you look at trends across your regions.
  • Build mutually beneficial relationships with local/regional partners and enterprise property owners and neighbors. You'll hold the bar high for local teams to bring a sense of hospitality not just to guest stays but to relationships with our property partners, avoiding short-term thinking and seeking mutually beneficial outcomes. You will be Kasa's senior operations contact for a set of our institutional real estate property owners and will participate in business development efforts to expand our footprint with them.
  • Maintain every unit to a level that Kasa can be proud of. You want every Kasa unit in your region to be one you'd be proud for a family member or friend to stay in, whether for a day or a month. To achieve this, you will lead the team in building the tools, trainings, SOPs, recognition programs, performance management practices, and cross-functional inputs to ensure that we adhere to consistent standards even in a very diverse set of properties. To accomplish these four goals, you will have wide latitude and decision-making responsibility. You will be expected to hire and coach high-performing General Managers and inspire them to hold the bar high when bringing on their own talent. You will establish trusting internal relationships, whether with revenue management, finance, tech & product, or people ops teams, to establish alignment and commitment towards common goals. And you will participate in numerous leadership processes within Kasa, including establishing bi-annual objectives and key results (OKRs), defining Kasa's hiring and management principles, and helping to strengthen Kasa's culture and values.Like most Kasa roles, this is a remote position, so you are free to work from anywhere. By virtue of your portfolio, you will be expected to be available during Mountain and Pacific time zone hours. You should expect to travel -30-40% of the time (although more is welcome!) both to meet with your team across the many markets you'll cover, as well as for in-person leadership summits and other strategic forums. For the most part, the timing of this travel is very discretionary, so you can plan your travel around your life!Requirements
  • You have 10+ years of experience in successively more senior general management or functional leadership roles, ideally in operational startups, or in forward-thinking operations teams at larger companies or hospitality businesses.
  • You have 6+ years of experience managing teams, and have managed geographically distributed teams and teams that include both hourly and salaried employees.
  • You are an adept people manager, and have frequently been called "the best person I ever worked for" by former direct employees. You know how to balance high expectations with a supportive culture.
  • You've been responsible for successfully achieving ambitious quantitative targets and know how to coach teams to rise to the challenge of audacious goals. You always "know your numbers" when asked.
  • You are an influential individual and can point to instances where you've been able to pull together a group of misaligned colleagues to find agreement and commitment where it seemed impossible before
  • You've worked in technology companies or been a consistent early adopter of new technologies, and are energized by the prospect of unlocking new ways to operate through building new tech.
  • You know your way around a P&L and can quickly establish intuition for financials that lets you rapidly assess what might be going wrong (or right!).
