Job Description:

As leader of Revenue Accounting at Apartment List, you will work in a fast paced environment focused on building and scaling processes for a high growth and profitable tech start-up. This position will build out our revenue accounting operations and technical reporting from the ground up and will play a crucial role in growing the finance organization.-- The Revenue Accounting Manager loves to build things from scratch and is a versatile individual responsible for expediting and elevating our close, building out a SOX-ready environment, technical accounting around revenue recognition, and streamlining and automating process improvements across the order to cash process. This role will have high visibility to the CFO and partner weekly with leaders in the Sales, Revenue Analytics, and Engineering teams.-- If you're looking for a rewarding challenge to scale a business and make rapid, meaningful, organizational change, reach out! Who you are:

  • You have 6+ years of experience in accounting or accounting operations, including Big 4 and subsequently with a public company
  • You have a Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting or Finance and a CPA--
  • You're experienced in revenue recognition and 606 in a technology company or in an external audit capacity, including technical memo writing
  • You have experience writing narratives and process documents around robust internal controls from scratch
  • You're highly goal oriented and eager to roll up sleeves to iterate and execute quickly, whilst maintaining a high attention to detail
  • You think inquisitively and strategically and are able to see the big picture while digging in the details
  • You have a knack for scaling and automating processes and have created operational efficiencies across the order to cash cycle
  • You thrive working cross-functionally in a partner and project management capacity and are driven by process improvement
  • You can succinctly communicate complex problems to an array of stakeholders
  • You're awesome at Microsoft Excel and can leverage skills to quickly compile and aggregate data
  • Time management comes second nature to you, even when things move quickly

  • You have experience with systems including NetSuite, Salesforce, or other ERP. Experience in implementation is a plus What you'll do:
    • Establish the highest standard of revenue close process and expedite timing of close for revenue and related accounts, including accounts receivable and reserve for allowance
    • Identify and implement efficiencies, process improvements, and automations throughout the revenue cycle and accounting close
    • Lead organizational change across sales, finance, and engineering teams on process and system requirements, driving efficiencies and creating a SOX environment
    • Develop and enhance processes and SOX controls around revenue related financial metrics that are disclosed in periodically published documents
    • Own researching and documenting technical accounting guidance in accordance with ASC-606
    • Lead in the creation of internal accounting policies and business processes across the revenue cycle
    • Work cross functionally to institute system flows and integrations for the order to cash process
    • Lead as primary audit liaison for all things revenue
    • Lead special projects, where necessary, including expansion of business model and building out billing processes for partnerships
