As a Senior Director of product manager, you will be responsible for engaging with key practitioners (developers, SREs, Ops professionals) to understand their jobs to be done and building a platform that will deliver the experiences they need to be successful. This is more than just the web interface, it will include APIs, development experiences for extending it and seamless onboarding. You will also define product features, driving the system architecture, and spearhead standard methodologies that enable the overall developer experience. Opportunity to work from a remote office may be available depending on applicant location. In this role, you will be a strategic problem solver as well as a product visionary, that understands the need for process and prioritization on high demand projects, who can turn planning into great product experiences by getting into the minute details. You will succeed as the "voice of the customer" if you have a proven balance of technical skills, strong product sense, and a depth of knowledge on how teams deliver and monitor software. The ideal candidate strikes a balance between the following elements

Technical prowess in developer experiences

  • Could have been a developer in a former life (or actually has been), so that they understand the software development life cycle, and the world and ecosystem of the developer.
  • Working knowledge of REST and GraphQL based APIs that they can contribute meaningfully to a API schema discussion and would feel comfortable answering questions from customers. Product management savvy
  • Ability to set forth a vision and strategy for the product.
  • An evangelist for the technology, working both internally and externally to promote the product and develop a loyal customer base. Business competency
  • A strong and significant leader who knows what they want, and how to collaborate with teams in order to get there.
  • Deep understanding of engineering and project management processes in order to demonstrate data to drive informed decisions. What You'll Do Product strategy:
    • Drive the product strategy for New Relic's global platform, including the NR1 web site one.newrelic.com, in-product developer experience, and seamless onboarding.
    • Make informed, data driven decisions through customer and market insights, product and business KPIs, competitive pressures, technical capability, and internal initiatives; create the product story by understanding the landscape, developer needs, and New Relic principles Planning:
    • Lead the full product lifecycle - from requirements definition, to delivery, to end of life - collaborating with other teams across the company, including Engineering, Design, Support, Marketing, and Sales counterparts. Define and lead a detailed, rolling 4-quarter product roadmap. Internal leadership:
    • Lead initiatives within the team and domain.
    • Determine the right methods and process for new projects.
    • Maximize efficiency in a constantly evolving environment where the process is fluid and creative solutions are the norm; consider the business impact, return on investment, and other implications when making important decisions. Product champion:
    • Advise and enable teams across New Relic; represent New Relic as a product and domain specialist in front of Industry Analysts, customers, industry events/conferences, and other events; Lead sales engineer and support education sessions Your Qualifications

      Must-have:
      • 8+ years experience in technical product management or development role
      • Ability to drive teams of diverse backgrounds to ship features on aggressive timelines
      • Capability to identify technical impacts, recommend best-practice and/or alternate approaches, and provide timeline estimates
      • An ability to articulate development status and challenges to both technical and non- technical audiences
      • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
      • BA/BS in computer science, computer engineering or a related technical field
      • Ability to drive requirement definition and solution design sessions, while working closely with stakeholders from across the entire organization and with developers
      • Experience building extraordinary web experiences at scale Nice-to-have:
        • Knowledge of the developer tool space and market leaders and solid understanding of DevOps and how modern software is built, packaged, and deployed
        • Deep knowledge of a variety of SDKs, APIs, and developer tooling
        • Strong technically with a passion for design and usability
        • Prior experience in Developer Relations and building developer platforms is a plus
        • Experience working with or building GraphQL schemas is a plus
        • Significant experience with Kubernetes and Docker is a plus
