We're looking to bring on a Director to lead and grow Kapwing for EDU, our initiatives to reach and serve classrooms, educators, and K12 students. This position is based in San Francisco (remote until after the covid-19 pandemic calms down) and reports directly to the CEO. Why EDU is important for our mission? Kapwing's mission is to empower digital storytellers, entertainers, and educators. Young people are visual thinkers and use multimedia to express themselves, learn, and teach others. Kids and teens love consuming and making multimedia content, and because it's so engaging and stimulating, teachers often assign projects that require digital media creation.-- In 2020, our software has never been more relevant for educators and students. Kapwing takes software that only works on a fancy MacBook - iMovie - and moves it into the cloud so that anyone can access it from home. Students can collaborate together on projects from their own computer. The software is incredibly simple so that any teacher or student can use it immediately without a technical tutorial. Why EDU is important for our business goals? More than 70% of Adobe's customers have used Photoshop before they're in 7th grade. Digital media skills are learned young, so we think there's an opportunity to get creators on Kapwing from the start. We estimate that 20% of our customers are affiliated with a university or K12 institution. Responsibilities

  • Product (15%): Represent teachers and students in our product roadmap
  • Privacy: Ensuring compliance and proper handling of student data
  • New features: Inform product improvements and prioritization based on insights of teachers/students using Kapwing
  • Marketing (80%): Develop and execute strategy for expand Kapwing's reach among students and teachers
  • Community: Nurture activism among Kapwing fans and lead a brand ambassador program. Contests, swag, reposting, spotlights.
  • Brand: Design landing pages, visual assets, and marketing materials showing how Kapwing can be used in schools. Collect photos and videos. Design cohesive visuals and language (hashtags, swag, messaging, etc)
  • Support Materials: Publish blog articles and a video series showing how Kapwing enhances student learning
  • Case Studies: Study and document how Kapwing is used in classrooms.
  • Partnerships: Pursue EDU partnerships and certifications, including Google's EDU Partner Program.
  • Conferences and Evangelism: Attend ISTE and related conferences to talk to teachers about Kapwing and using video/visual media in the classroom
  • PR: Contribute guest blog posts, answer relevant journalist queries, and expand Kapwing's presence in mainstream blogs/press
  • Pricing and GTM (5%): Develop school-wide and district-wide pricing plans and deployment process
  • Sales: Sell Kapwing for Schools to districts and schools and lead cold outreach Requirements
    • Passion for K12 education and student wellbeing. 4-10 years of working with teachers and public schools.
    • Familiarity and love for digital media and creative software
    • Experience with digital marketing and growth: At least 2 years of experience in a growth-related role focused on organic acquisition (SEO, referrals, PR, etc)
    • Writing skills: Experience generating content. Comfortable drafting cold emails, press releases, case studies, blog articles, and more. A skilled storyteller.
    • Extreme independant: Must be capable of develop action plans, set achievable milestones, picking up new skills, and rigorously prioritize independently
    • Strategic analysis: Comfortable doing market analysis, user research, and case studies to identify opportunity and quantify impact. Experience in management consulting is a plus.
    • Scrappy: Willing to experiment, try out many different strategies, and wear different hats when needed. We have limited marketing budget for this role
    • Interest in consumer software: Innovative product thinker with a love for new technology and user delight/experience Potential Role Trajectory (Over Time)
      • 3 months: Help develop Kapwing's offering for schools/districts. Audit COPPA/FERPA compliance and develop policies on school-related concerns. Secure an EDU partnership. Network with teachers who are already using Kapwing. Design and launch a landing page for teachers.
      • 6 months: Plan an organic campaign for getting new schools/teachers on board. Develop content and support materials and lead a brand ambassador program for new ambassadors. Reach out to journalists and bloggers to generate buzz about Kapwing. Manage a growth intern.
      • 9 months: Establish process for teachers/schools/districts seeking to deploy Kapwing. Build relationships with influencers and seek distribution partnerships with major players. Host teacher trainings at conferences and meetups nationally. Our hiring process Our technical process is a short, behavioral interview about your past experiences, a sample of work project designed to take less than one day of work, two hours of interviews, and a lunch with our whole team. Founders Julia Enthoven and Eric Lu previously worked together as product managers on the Image Search team at Google. The company was founded in 2017, and bootstrapped to over $100k ARR before raising money mostly through Product Hunt launches, a popular blog on entrepreneurship, and SEO.
