Job Description:
AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery,
and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words,
we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS
data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power,
and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual
access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most
challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the
supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to
help. You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network
engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations
managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people
across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and
security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest
possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive
culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to
completion. The Data Center Field Engineering Team is the
engineering owner for the lifecycle of AWS data centers. This
includes supporting new designs/innovations through data center
end-of-life, with a focus on root cause analysis of failures,
capacity and availability improvement, and optimization of the
existing fleet. As a Field Engineering Technical Program Manager,
you are an exceptionally strong communicator, both written and
verbally. You will lead multi-discipline and highly technical
teams. You will have experience of working in a complex engineering
environment and will have worked on increasingly complex projects
in multiple disciplines. Your experience includes data center MEP
infrastructure technologies including HVAC, power distribution
systems, and controls. You will generate and maintain enhanced
reporting, meaningful KPIs, and process/automation improvements to
ensure team efficiency and visibility of global program efforts to
critical stakeholders and leadership. You will partner with other
engineering teams, operations staff, and project execution/delivery
teams regularly. You will make strategic decisions regarding
specific projects and overall program direction. You will be
capable of connecting long-term strategies with rapid growth
patterns of AWS, as well as guide specific operational needs of the
business. You must be adept at identifying and communicating
upcoming risks, issues, and bottlenecks as well as be instrumental
in resolving those issues, often cross multiple departmental
boundaries to achieve your goal. You must possess a strong sense of
organization, communication and team building skill-sets that
foster robust working relationships for both internal and external
stakeholders. Key job responsibilities Rhythm of Business •
Establish and own the end-to-end business rhythm for Field
Engineering. • Oversee preparation for and facilitation of business
review meetings at all cadences, highlighting operational
performance and progress against key initiatives. • Develop working
backward plans for business reviews including Weekly Business
Reviews (WBRs), Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs), Quarterly Business
Reviews (QBRs), and Operational Planning (OP) cycles. • Steward the
annual planning process (OP1/OP2), including organizing
brainstorming sessions, document drafts, reviews, and final
commitment establishment. Goals and Commitments • Drive the annual
goal creation process including calendar, workback plans, and
alignment to upstream goals processes at DCC, DCPD, and AWS
Infrastructure levels. • Manage FE goals and commitments, driving
timely updates and developing monthly and quarterly review
documents. • Establish and lead the mechanisms, governance, and
reporting cadence for goal reviews, ensuring timing supports upward
leadership reviews. • Establish and maintain high standards for
goal writing, goal tracking, and reporting; maintain team reporting
tools to track progress against commitments. Workforce Planning and
Headcount • Develop and drive reporting, analysis, and
recommendations on employee productivity across the FE
organization. • Partner with FE leadership and BIE teams to develop
workforce plans, hiring targets for OP1 and OP2, and mechanisms to
track progress against workforce plan goals. • Review and analyze
bottoms-up headcount plans during OP cycles, making recommendations
to adjust plans when appropriate. • Partner with Recruiting to
track progress against hiring targets and serve as the single
threaded owner for relevant recruiting programs (e.g., Bar Raisers,
Shadows). Programs, Projects, and Analytics • Own and drive
deployment of selected programs or initiatives as identified by FE
senior leadership. • Partner with peers across Field Engineering to
translate complex infrastructure operations requirements into
resource plans and program roadmaps. • Orchestrate complex,
multi-stakeholder projects and manage ambiguity across ad-hoc
requests. • Drive data-driven decision making by building
dashboards and analytics that correlate field engineering
performance metrics such as incident rates, MTTR, availability
targets, and operational readiness. • Establish and maintain robust
project tracking systems and prioritization frameworks. People and
Employee Experience • Develop analyses, recommendations, and
mechanisms to assess employee experience and drive actions that
continuously raise the bar for positive builder sentiment across
FE. • Partner with the FE leadership team to manage initiatives
that support employee retention, attrition reduction, promotion
readiness, and overall employee experience. • Identify leadership
training opportunities for both the FE leadership team and the
general builder population; arrange training directly or through
others and track effectiveness. • Partner with the leadership team
to identify, plan, and organize team building activities in key hub
locations. Communication and Stakeholder Management • Communicate
effectively at all levels, including with Executive Management
across Global Data Center Operations and cross-functional partner
teams. A day in the life Why AWS? About AWS Amazon Web Services
