Strategic Imperative:

The Director, Design Engineering oversees Engineering Design function and is responsible for the driving the output of electric vehicle charging station designs for multi-unit residential and commercial installations.

Detailed Job Duties: (typical monthly, weekly, daily tasks which support the primary objectives)

  • Oversees and manages small to large-scale design engineering activities and projects to ensure compliance with electrical utilities, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Oversees the completion and approval of design electrical single line diagrams.
  • Develops design templates that meet ESR and AHJ requirements.
  • Facilitates resolution of design, and operations problems.
  • Optimizes engineering performance and efficiency to meet forecasted goals.
  • Manage and optimize sales engineering direction, accuracy, and organization.
  • Drives internal cross functional department communication and collaboration.
  • Implement quality assurance and standardized processes.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to achieve forecasted design goals.
  • Understand local and new market AHJ and utility requirements for EV Charging electrical designs.
  • Oversees change control process.
  • Administers and monitors work for compliance with budget, schedule, standards, and objectives.
  • Reviews plans and specifications for technical adequacy and completeness.
  • Recommends design activity improvements for efficiency, compliance, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Plans budget and staffing needs and assists in preparing department and project budgets.
  • Represents Chargie to external agencies.
  • Prepares and presents reports to management.
  • Serves as chairperson for design reviews and other technical meetings.
  • Directs, supervises, trains, mentors, and motivates assigned staff.
  • Establish KPI's, reporting and drive performance improvements.
  • Oversees planning, coordinating, and directing all activities, projects, and personnel with regards to engineering.
  • May be required to perform other related job duties as directed by the executive team. Requirements

    The MUST Haves: (ex: skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)
    • B.A. or B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Five or more years (5+) years of relevant engineering management-level experience.
    • Ten or more (10+) years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • FE or PE in Electrical engineering. Required Skills:
      • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
      • Intermediate level knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite: Outlook Communication Management software, Word, PowerPoint; Access; Project Management; and Publisher.
      • Experience Internet usage, PC and/or MAC and Windows.
      • Planning, organizing, and managing large-scale design and construction projects.
      • Reading, analyzing, and interpreting engineering plans and specifications for large-scale engineering projects.
      • Familiarity with OSHA requirements.
      • Data entry skills.
      • Auto cad.
      • Job cost analysis.
      • Preparing complex comprehensive reports and correspondence
      • Analyzing data and situations, identifying problems, developing, and recommending solutions, and evaluating outcomes.
      • Exercising sound judgment and creativity in making decisions.
      • Communicating effectively orally and in writing.
      • Interacting professionally with various levels of Chargie employees and outside representatives. Required Abilities:
        • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively to ensure successful project execution.
        • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals.
        • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
        • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
        • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
        • Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
        • Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
        • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
        • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
        • Ability to manage projects from start-up to completion.
        • Ability to think and act independently, prioritize and multi-task.
        • Make financial decisions within a budget.
        • Ability to understand, interpret, and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, budgets, contracts.
        • Ability to supervise, train, mentor, and motivate assigned staff.
        • Read, write, speak, and understand English. The Nice to Haves: (preferred additional skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses)

          Experience performing electrical engineering design of EV charging stations.
          • Experience utilizing local building design codes.
          • Experience working with applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing electrical utility, engineering, equipment, construction standards.
          • Experience administering project management and control practices. All positions require the following (unless otherwise specified or required for the job (see below):
            • Physical Ability:
            • Sit up to 5 hours per day
            • Stand up to 5 hours per day
            • Lift, carry, push up to 25 lbs.
            • Ability to work M-F during the core hours of 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
            • Ability to listen, read, organize thoughts, analyze, and communicate (both in verbal and written form, in English, in a concise and professional manner).
            • Ability to type on a keyboard and utilize the computer work tools constantly and with proficiency (specifically the MS Office Suite)
            • Timely communication and responsiveness to peers and management
            • Regular and consistent attendance to work and meetings
            • Ability to receive and offer feedback in a professional and positive manner
            • Adherence to company policy and behavior in accordance with our values and norms.
