Job Description:
Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) Engineering
Division has an immediate opening for a Structural Design Engineer
to join the team. This is a matrix position within the engineering
division that supports various projects at LBNL including, but not
limited to, the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE), the
Gamma-Ray Energy Tracking Array (GRETA), the Advanced Light Source
(ALS), the Advanced Light Source Upgrade project, and Cosmic
Microwave Background Stage 4 (CMB-S4), as well as engineering
support for the wide array of science and technology at LBNL. It's
an exciting time to join our growing team!
The first assignment of a successful candidate will be to support
the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) project by
performing a variety of mechanical engineering tasks such as part
and assembly design, structural analysis, installation process
development, and drawing review.
DUNE is a scientific project managed by the United States
Department of Energy. DUNE will consist of two neutrino detectors
placed in the world's most intense neutrino beam. The so-called
Near Detector will record particle interactions near the source of
the beam at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) in
Batavia, Illinois. A second, much larger Far Detector will be
installed more than a kilometer underground at the Sanford
Underground Research Facility in Lead, South Dakota - 1,300
kilometers downstream of the source. These detectors will enable
scientists to search for new subatomic phenomena and potentially
transform our understanding of neutrinos and their role in the
universe.
This position will be hired at a level commensurate with the
business needs as well as the skills, knowledge, and abilities of
the successful candidate.
DUNE-Specific Job Responsibilities:
The full salary range of this position is between $7,469 to $12,600
per month and is expected to pay between a targeted range of $8,401
to $10,268 per month depending upon candidates' full skills,
knowledge, and abilities, including education, certifications, and
years of experience.
If hired at level 3:
The full salary range of this position is between $9,135 to $15,242
per month and is expected to pay between a targeted range of
$10,277 to $12,560 per month depending upon candidates' full
skills, knowledge, and abilities, including education,
certifications, and years of experience.
The posting shall remain open until the position is filled.
