Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing Engineering for The Lodge, Casa Palmero, The Beach & Tennis Club and The Spa. You will be accountable for maintaining the buildings and grounds to the highest standard with particular attention towards safety, security and asset protection. This position will manage preventative maintenance, special events and energy conservation while also assigning, tracking and following up on the status of work assigned to staff. You will help to increase guest and employee satisfaction through effective communication and training.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support Management of Property Operations:
  • Manage all equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems.
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of Engineering.
  • Supervise and follow-up daily task assignments via HotSOS.
  • Monitor timeliness & quality of completion of repair work orders, look for trends in issues, room types and buildings.
  • Select and purchase necessary equipment and supplies, develop par program for highly used items.
  • Plan, schedule and execute preventative maintenance program.
  • Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationship with employees.
  • Ensure that daily on-going communication occurs with employees to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations and maintain standards.
  • All other duties as required.
  • Maintain Property Standards:
  • Inspect and evaluate the physical condition of facilities in order to determine the type of work required.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records as required.
  • Operate generators and emergency systems as necessary, oversee monthly checks
  • Provide emergency response services 24/7.
  • Repair equipment (all areas including pool and spa, kitchen equipment, refrigeration) as necessary.
  • Ensure all employees have the proper supplies, equipment, and uniforms.
  • Ensure Exceptional Customer Service:
  • Empower employees to provide excellent customer service.
  • Emphasize guest satisfaction during all department meetings and focus on continuous improvement.
  • Develop and enforce standards related to maintenance and repairs, and guest interaction.
  • Conduct Human Resources Activities:
  • Help train employees in safety procedures.
  • Support a departmental orientation program for employees to receive the appropriate new hire training to successfully perform their job.
  • Communicate performance expectations in accordance with job descriptions for each position.
  • Ensure disciplinary procedures and documentation are completed following Company guidelines.
  • Participate in the employee performance appraisal process, providing feedback as needed.
  • Use all available on-the-job training tools for employees.
  • Solicit employee feedback.
    Required Skills:
    • High school diploma or GED; minimum 5 years' experience in the engineering and maintenance of resort facilities or related professional area; technical training in HVAC-R/electrical/plumbing.
    • 5 years' resort engineering management experience.
    • Valid California driver's license; 500 Boiler License; State of California Certification; Universal Technician EPA approved certificate.
    • Proficient in use of PC; knowledge of hotel maintenance software.
      Desired Skills:
      • Experience with special event power and water set-up, execution and break-down.
