Integration Engineer Sr. - Vehicle Architecture

  • The Integration Engineer Sr. is the expert for measuring technology on the vehicles, methods and tools team. As such, he is guiding and supporting the teams with the concept, installation and troubleshooting of any topics related to data loggers, media converters and bus system messaging issues (corrupt or missing messages). Coordinate and lead the Engineering support for vehicle conversions, installation of complex data measuring equipment, electronic configuration management and perform diagnosis of complex faulty pathways across multiple state of the art vehicles bus systems. Setup and configure the needed log and trace equipment.
  • Synchronize with project partners in NAR region and Germany to stay in sync with any developments around future automotive communication technologies, measuring technology concepts, log and trace topics and potential future requirements.
  • This open position is part of a team that focuses on the series development support of electronic/electronic systems with particular relevance to the US and Canadian markets. People most suited for this position are able to derive technical systems from market-driven ideas, assertively work with suppliers building trust and finding common ground solutions, and work well in a multi-disciplined environment.

    Role Responsibilities

    • Design, install and troubleshoot measuring technology for Engineering vehicles and validation equipment (e.g. test benches)

      • Ideation and development of new log and traces concepts based on state-of-the-art equipment
      • Align new concepts and updated log and trace strategies/approaches with HQs in Germany
      • Design necessary wiring harnesses and brackets for proper in-vehicle installations
      • Setup and properly configure the installed log and trace devices (e.g. data loggers, PLC sniffers, media converters, capture modules)
      • Verify proper installation and setup based on trace analysis
      • Troubleshoot any identified issues on vehicle's bus systems to narrow down the source of the issue

      • Single point of contact for all local teams for measuring technology matters - Be the expert for all IECC teams for log and trace topics

        • Present log and trace design/concepts to teams
        • Prepare required purchasing documents and provide technical argumentations
        • Investigate strategies and requirements for future system logging with measuring technology for ECC with project leads
        • Stay up-to-date on VW Group diagnostic tool chain
        • Regular Interaction with international partners (internal and external)

        • Support IECC teams to troubleshoot vehicle messaging issues

          • Identify and exclude potential sources of error
          • Provide guidance as to where and why vehicle messaging errors appear
          • Hold trainings for onsite team members to enhance technical skills amongst testing/validation teams
          • Work with suppliers of automobile and testing electronics hardware and software

          • Apply broad skills in related fields to design and develop new techniques to use in resolving new challenges.

          • Responsible for reviewing completed project documents for conformity, quality and design, and provide mentorship to junior engineers.

          • Provide supervision and guidance relating to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts and policy matters.

            Qualifications - External


            Years of Relevant Experience

            • 8+ years of related experience within the Automotive OEM, Tier 1 supplier or support environment
            • 3 related technical certifications

              Education Required

              • Bachelor degree in engineering (Electrical, Telecommunications, Automotive, Computer Science, Information Technologies). Master's Preffered.

                • Ability to interpret technical specifications and wiring diagrams
                • Knowledge of product development processes and project management activities, deliverables, and milestones.

                • Good people and test resource management

                • Team player with good collaboration and integration skills - joining people, processes and systems
                • California State driving license
                • Excellent English language skills mandatory
                • Expert know-how in related areas of automotive bus systems/technologies such as LIN, CAN, CAN FD, MOST, Flexray, BroadR-reach (100Base-T1/1000Base-T1), embedded automotive systems
                • Expertise in computer network technologies (ISO/OSI model, data packet handling, VLAN tagging, IP addresses and sub-nets; IPv4; IPv6) incl. communication protocols (e.g. TCP/IP), equipment (routers/switches) and troubleshooting
                • Expertise in common vehicle bus analysis tools, e.g. Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, Wireshark, CANape
                • Experience in configuring and setting up data loggers, media converters and capture modules
                • Hands-on wiring and wire crimping experience (trouble shooting: broken wires, change pinning, use of multi-meters)
                • Ability to interpret technical specifications
                • Excellent strategically thinking, negotiation, and communication skills
                • Analytical skills. Proven record of active engagement in process improvements
                • Motivated team player with positive attitude and strong work ethic.
                • Experience with signal analysis tooling: Oscilloscope and DVM
                • Experience with automotive/vehicle sensors (e.g. cameras/IP-cameras, LiDAR, radar, USS)
                • Prior experience in working with tier-1 suppliers or automotive manufacturers

                  Desired Skills

                  • Devotion for high quality, ability to find and expose quality insufficiencies in automotive electronics systems.
                  • Experience with VW Group diagnostic tool chain (ODIS-S, ODIS-E, iDEX, CP-Tool, VAS)
                  • Knowledge of automotive advanced driving assistance and infotainment systems
                  • Passion for cars and car electronics
                  • Computer savvy
                  • Knowledge of wireless network technologies and methods (WiFi, Beacons)
                  • German language skills
