Under general supervision, Summer Camp Leaders assist Camp Directors in facilitating a variety of recreational and sports activities across the City's summer camp offerings, including Camp Everything, PRD Funtopia, PRD Mini Campers, and Preschool Explorers. The City of Piedmont is seeking passionate and dedicated staff who can bring spirit, commitment, and care to our community. We are currently hiring compassionate, nurturing, creative, and fun-loving individuals who are eager to make a positive impact in the lives of children. Applicants should have a basic knowledge of recreational activities, along with the enthusiasm, patience, leadership skills, and desire to guide and supervise participants throughout our programs. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Recreation Supervisor to develop, implement, and oversee innovative programs for children. PIEDMONT RECREATION DEPARTMENT CLASSIFICATIONS Recreation Leader I ($17-$18.90/hour): Equivalent to completion of 12th grade or GED, with at least one year of volunteer or work experience in a childcare or recreation program. Coursework in education, child development, or a related field is preferred. Recreation Leader II / Preschool Aide ($18.90-$22.50/hour): Equivalent to completion of two years of college, with at least three years of volunteer or paid work experience in a childcare or recreation program. Coursework in education, child development, or a related field is preferred. Recreation Leader III ($22-$30/hour): Equivalent to completion of four years of college, with at least five years of volunteer or work experience in a childcare or recreation program. Specialized experience in recreation programming is highly preferred, along with coursework in education or child development. Ideal Candidates Are: Professional: Able to engage with both children and parents in a respectful and appropriate manner. Responsible: Prioritize safety and consistently follow through on tasks. Energetic & Enthusiastic: A team player who is always ready to contribute and have fun! Experienced: Previous experience working with children in a recreation or after-school setting is preferred. Company Culture Detail-oriented: Focused on quality and precision People-oriented: Supportive and fairness-focused Team-oriented: Cooperative and collaborative Minimum Requirements Age: 18 years Education/Experience: 6 semester units (or equivalent) in Early Childhood Education OR 120 hours of verifiable, commensurate experience 2 years of work or volunteer experience in a recreation program or childcare setting Skills/Abilities: Ability to supervise groups of youth in recreational programs Willingness to work off-hours, shifts, or special events as required Strength to lift and carry materials weighing up to 20 pounds Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions Additional Requirements: Successful completion of Department of Justice live fingerprint scan, background and reference checks, physical and drug/alcohol screening, and Tuberculosis screening prior to employment Examples of Duties Activity Planning: Assist in the development, implementation, and scheduling of play-based recreational activities, field trips, guest speakers, and special events for specified PRD programs Camp Preparation: Prepare camp activities and rotations, including games, sports, drama, music, science, nature, and crafts for groups of up to 40 campers Staff Supervision: Support Camp Directors in organizing, directing, and scheduling staff, ensuring proper staff-to-child ratios in compliance with state regulations Training and Setup: Participate in mandatory staff training and setup days prior to camp start Staff Meetings: Attend regular staff meetings during work hours, including pre- and post-camp debriefings Camp Operations: Contribute to daily camp setup, breakdown, check-in/check-out procedures, and snack & lunch supervision Leadership: Support and encourage Recreation Aides and VolunTEENS Health & Safety: Ensure the health and safety of children and staff, maintaining a safe, clean, and organized environment while providing leadership and camp spirit Technical Assistance: Provide assistance to staff in developing discipline and camp management techniques Supply Management: Assist in estimating, ordering, purchasing, and maintaining adequate inventory of supplies and equipment Equipment Handling: Set up and use recreational, educational, and cleaning equipment, as well as standard office equipment including computers Safety Instruction: Instruct children in the safe use of supplies and equipment Administrative Support: Assist in filing and tracking camp paperwork Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned Position Details Hours: Part-time, 20-25 hours per week Benefits: Sick Leave Accrual Pay: $17.00 - $30.00 per hour We appreciate your interest in joining our team and look forward to reviewing your application!
