The Middle School English Curriculum and Pedagogy
In 8th-grade English, students read a diverse range of fiction,
non-fiction, poetry, and hybrid texts. They write personal
narratives, short stories, OpEds, analytical essays, and children's
books that explore their passions, challenge their assumptions, and
push them to take writerly risks. At SF Day the English Department

cross-curricular connections and develop relevant projects. We
build a culture of two-way feedback where students understand that
not only are they welcome to bring their full selves and identities
