Job Description:
Job Summary We are looking for a Financial Analyst who will play
a key role in supporting the strategic financial planning &
analysis for Marin Health Medical Network (MHMN), working within
UCSF Health Network Ambulatory. The position will assist in
developing MHMN analytics for reporting, support sustainable and
scalable finance processes, support month-end close activities,
manage annual budgeting for MHMN, conduct financial performance
management and variance analysis of results, and assist in the
financial insight of outputs. The candidate builds trusted
relationships with key stakeholders in Finance, UCSF senior
leadership, and the UCSF-Marin Health Alliance. Applies extensive
knowledge of industry practices in health care decision support and
advanced financial analysis concepts, typically at high degrees of
complexity in collaboration with their direct supervisor. The
analyst brings deep analytic and financial management skills to
focus on Marin Health Medical Network (MHMN) to guide
decision-making and develop insights on where and how to focus
organizational efforts/resources. The role will work closely with
leadership, IT, Finance, and operations to understand the
overarching goals in conjunction with other stakeholders and then
address day-to-day challenges to accomplish that work. With that in
mind, the financial analyst will consider all of the data points
currently or potentially available, create and build models such
that valuable insights can be gleaned, and consequently analyze
those models to discern actionable insights and help curate plus
deliver data-driven recommendations/analysis to leadership. This
individual is recognized as a health care decision support expert.
Applies comprehensive knowledge of financial analysis concepts and
industry practices to lead complex project analytics of large size
and scope that have a critical impact across the Marin Health
Medical Network (MHMN). Will prepare large data summary reports and
analyses to help business decision-making. Works as a liaison
across business units, implementing and monitoring changes by
working with Accounting, Finance, Funds Flow Finance, and Decision
Support Systems (UCSF Academic Medical Centers downstream and
faculty practice organization) to understand reporting requirements
and data limitations to help develop custom reports and validate
data across the organization as it relates to Marin Health Medical
Network (MHMN). Responsibilities will include gathering data and
producing an analysis of utilization, the clinic’s financial
performance, market trends as appropriate, financial analysis in
support of pro forma due diligence, and financial forecast modeling
of Marin Health Medical Network (MHMN). Evaluate schedules and the
data for completeness and accuracy. Ensures details gathered to
comply with finance policies and procedures. Gathers data and
information from the managerial financial accounting reporting
system (GL System), Axiom Kaufman Hall, IBM COGNOS (DART), EPSI,
EssBase, and other applications to integrate into aggregated
financial performance reports at a cost center, division, and other
hierarchical levels. Develops and maintains key relationships with
organizational functional areas to meet the Marin Health Medical
Network (MHMN) needs for effective financial analysis and ad-hoc
analysis. The successful candidate will work closely with finance
leadership across UCSF Academic Medical Centers and Faculty
Practice Organization finance teams, decision support professionals
(on the costing team), department leadership in clinical
administration or SOM administration, and outside consultants to
create proformas that drive strategic growth and to help plan MHMN
budgeting. The candidate must be able to thrive and succeed in a
changing environment and not be hindered by ambiguity or competing
priorities. The candidate will anticipate bottlenecks, make
trade-offs, and balance the business needs versus other priorities
in collaboration with their supervisor via weekly check-ins. The
ability to take sparse information and successfully break down
projects, initiatives, and strategic priorities is expected in
collaboration with their supervisor. Maturity, high judgment,
negotiation skills, ability to influence, analytical talent, and
leadership are essential to succeed in the role. The analyst
closely collaborates with Accounting to ensure timely and accurate
reporting of monthly financial statements, supporting analysis,
annual operating budgets for MHMN, monthly 4 payments to MHMN (MD
Comp, Pass Thru Administrative Comp., and Meduit Collection
Services Expense), and preparing relevant financial packets and
board presentations for Marin Health Medical Network (MHMN). The
position is responsible for supporting leadership in the following
areas: Supports the monthly close process by reviewing financial
statements and supporting analysis for accuracy, trend, and
consistency. Prepares additional analysis to explain material
actual versus budget variances. Proposes correcting journal entries
by closely collaborating with the accounting staff and the role’s
supervisor. Summarizes financial results by evaluating areas of
concern and recommending solutions to Senior Leadership in
collaboration with the supervisor. Coordinates with Accounting,
Strategy, and Funds Flow Finance to estimate and monitor
performance trends per management agreement terms, estimated budget
ranges, and organizational (UCSF Health-MHMN) expectations. Plus
communicates variances, monitors, and helps review/resolve issues
in collaboration with the supervisor. Implements new agreement
amendments in collaboration with the accounting team, funds flow
finance, and supervisor to achieve operational efficiency and
contractual compliance with the MHMN executed agreement(s).
Prepares the annual operating budget for MHMN and SFMGP’s strategic
long-range plan by collaborating with the external finance staff
stakeholders at MHMN and the COO (or CSO) of UCSF Health Network.
Prepares ad-hoc analysis to facilitate executive decision making,
e.g., productivity benchmarking, profitability analysis, proformas,
etc., for Marin Health Medical Network (MHMN). The final salary and
offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC
policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a
number of factors, including your work experience and internal
equity within this position classification at UCSF. The salary
range for this position is $101,300-$216,700, with a target entry

you. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related area or
four years of equivalent experience/training AND Five years or more
of experience in decision support/financial analysis, preferably in
a Faculty Practice Organization, Academic Medical Center, or
Private Hospital setting. In-depth Knowledge of clinical,
financial, and business information technology software and
systems. (e.g., MS Word, PowerPoint, Project, Excel, Access,
Tableau, and EssBase) Advanced proficiency in the use of integrated
financial reporting tools and underlying data warehouse and cost
accounting methodologies (e.g., PeopleSoft GL, EPSI, or Strat
Jazz). Advanced Financial Management, Analysis, and Modeling with
strong problem-solving and analytical skills. Ability to analyze
data utilizing defined or new methodologies. Demonstrated advanced
ability to analyze, interpret, and document trends and variances
timely (on an ad hoc, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis).
Functional knowledge of large-scale integrated client-server / ERP
financial systems (e.g., PeopleSoft GL System). Deep financial data
knowledge and ability to use advanced business analysis skills to
work on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an
in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Excellent interpersonal
and communication skills. Excellent ability to motivate, influence,
and persuade others, and cultivate a strong commitment to
efficiency, functionality, and quality customer service. Excellent
leadership skills, with the ability to create and maintain a

Cost Accounting Knowledge, interpreting Cost Accounting results

support systems and best practices, as well as clinical finance and
