(SFCJL) is a center of excellence in providing a continuum of care.
This includes the Frank Residences, offering assisted living and
memory care services; the Jewish Home and Rehabilitation Center,
featuring long-term skilled nursing, short-term rehabilitation, and
an acute psychiatric unit specialized in mental healthcare for
older adults over age 55; and the Jewish Home and Senior Living
Foundation.Grounded in the Jewish values of dignity, compassion,

referred to in the past as "the Jewish Home," was founded in 1871.
Today, 150 years later, it continues to build upon its legacy of
enriching the lives of older adults.Position OverviewThe Controller
is responsible for overseeing the accounting, payroll, and accounts
payable functions, as well as ensuring tax compliance and managing
both internal and external financial reporting. The Controller will
serve as an advisor to the CFO, senior leadership, and management
team.Essential Job FunctionsEnsure the development and successful
completion of all accounting and financial-related functions:
- Timely and accurate monthly financial statements
- Variance analyses
- General accounting functions (general ledger, non-patient
accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll)
- Capital asset management and evaluation
- Internal controls, checks and balances over above functions,
along with documentation of all functions and processes
- Monitor, review and document all SFCJL accounting systems and
programs to maintain operational integrity.
- Collaborate closely with Finance colleagues (CFO, Patient
Accounting Director, Director of Financial Planning &
Analysis).
- Work with department heads to identify management information
and reports to be provided by finance and accounting.
- Supervise, support and mentor staff and serve as a coach to
develop team members.
- Build trust, credibility and strong working relationships with
senior leadership, management team, finance staff and other
employees.
- Develop ongoing reports to assist management in tracking budget
variances.
- Attend Finance Committee meetings to present financial results
and/or other reports as needed.
- Manage the annual financial audit, including preparation of
"client" deliverables, responding to auditor inquiries, and
drafting audited financial statements.
- Oversee tax compliance, including 990 preparation, sales tax,
property tax and other regulatory filings (e.g., Medicare and
Medi-Cal cost reports).
- Assist the CFO and senior leaders with analysis, projects and
initiatives as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.Requirements
- BA in Business, Accounting, or related field. MA in Business
Administration preferred.
- Strong background in GAAP required; CPA certification
preferred.
- 10 years of progressive accounting and financial management
experience in healthcare, preferably skilled nursing and/or acute
care industries.
- A solid finance manager with expertise in accounting, financial
reporting, cash management, forecasting, accounts payable
management and payroll management.
- Strong understanding of payroll rules and regulations
required.
- Control-oriented, ensuring checks and balances and segregation
of duties.
- Experience working with external auditors required.
- Understanding of fund accounting and contribution accounting
preferred.
- A high level of accountability and follow-through; models
strong customer service skills.
- Effective project management skills; a proactive approach to
bringing projects to completion.
- Strong systems orientation with an interest in expanding
automation.
- Must actively support, value, and resonate with the mission and
core values of the organization.
- Strong writing skills particularly in preparing financial
statement narratives and other written communications.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with Great
Plains, Adaptive and/or ADP are a plus.Other Skills/Abilities
