Associate Research Finance AdministratorMED-CORE-ADMIN-RESEARCHFull Time74120BRJob SummaryThe Associate Research Finance Administrator provides administrative and analytical support to the Central Research Administration team in the Department of Medicine (DOM). Reporting directly to the DOM Post Award Manager, the individual will support post-award financial administration efforts across all of DOM UCSF Health divisions as well as help with additional responsibilities in support of the Central Research Administration team, such as scheduling events and meetings and ordering supplies and equipment. The individual is often assigned to divisions to provide interim coverage during employee leaves or as positions are being recruited. The individual will be expected to research and analyze information to determine those action items that are highest priority in the portfolio they are covering. The Associate Research Finance Administrator must be detail-oriented and will be responsible for maintaining and updating budget status reports for faculty investigators, preparing financial closeout reports for sponsored awards, and reviewing financial activity for adherence to policy. This position will also be responsible for other administration projects as needed.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.The Department of Medicine (DOM), the largest department in the School of Medicine, has close to 600 full-time faculty leading top-notch research, clinical, and education programs. The Department has a decentralized organizational structure across four sites (Parnassus, ZSFG, VAMC and Mt. Zion) and 38 divisions. Authority and accountability for the Department rests with the Department Chair who heads the Parnassus and Mt. Zion sites, and also directs the Vice Chairs at the ZSFG and VAMC sites.

The Department has a dedicated team of Research Financial Analysts (RFAs). In conjunction with the services provided by the division administrators and their staff, the RFA is responsible for providing high-level financial analyses and management to a defined group of faculty for their portfolio of sponsored awards. The RFA serves as the faculty's single point of contact for research financial issues and ensures that faculty are provided with high quality, efficient, responsive, and responsible post-award research administration services.Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or 2 years equivalent experience / training working in a financial management capacity / financial setting
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of transactions.
  • Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focus
  • Writing skills to draft persuasive text for variety of audiences.
  • Solid communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with all levels of staff verbally and in writing.
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Intermediate to advanced level in the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook).
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to operate effectively in a changing organizational and technological environment.Preferred Qualifications
    • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
    • Knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
    • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
    • Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
    • Intermediate to advance level in Microsoft Powerpoint and Access
    • Knowledge of UCSF's chart of accounts and financial reporting systems e.g. MyReports, and Peoplesoft
