Job Description Accounting Manager / Controller The Position: This role is an exciting opportunity to join Telewave, Inc., a highly respected, technology company, based in Fremont, California. This position reports to remote CFO and collaborates with the onsite CEO. It is a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves position that manages all aspects of accounting and internal control, with the preparation of financial reports, including balance sheets, income and cashflow statements. This is a great opportunity to shape the small accounting team to be responsive to the needs and challenges required to scale for growth. The ideal candidate has formal accounting education including a CPA has a professional, self-motivated, positive attitude, can perform with minimal supervision and work closely with international accounting teams, customers and vendors and loves a challenge. The individual has the desire and capacity to grow with the company and embraces the opportunity. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: -- Lead, manage, mentor and develop accounting staff including establishing goals and objectives, and proactively addressing employee related issues. -- Significantly improve the timeliness and accuracy of accounting close. -- Manage and participate, in a hands-on fashion, in all day-to-day accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL, Inventory and Fixed Asset Accounting. -- Responsible for the preparation and approval of all journal entries, as well as G/L account, Bank and Credit Card reconciliations. -- Research technical accounting issues for compliance purposes. -- Review and revise documentation, processes, and procedures as needed to improve accuracy, increase transparency, and improve control activities. -- Work with operations and ERP system vendors and consultants on any needed system upgrades. -- Manage and coordinate annual physical inventory. -- Own monthly financial reporting including Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow, and variance analysis. Add new reporting as required. -- Assist the CEO with corporate insurance policy renewals. -- Work closely with outside CPA firm regarding preparation of corporate income tax returns, as well as supporting the financial audit and preparation of annual published financial report. -- Filing and/or support of the filing of sales/use, and personal property tax returns. -- Daily Banking and Cash Flow Management, as well as maintaining positive relations with banking partners and ensuring that covenant ratios are calculated to support compliance. -- Review financial results versus budget and prior periods, identifying trends and concerns. -- Assist with annual budgeting and monthly forecasting, update of 13-week cash forecast. -- Additional tasks as requested. Required Skills & Experience: -- Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance required, CPA preferred. -- A minimum of 10 years of general accounting experience and or public accounting. -- Proficient with data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving. -- Hands on experience with Syspro (ERP) is a major plus. -- Excellent understanding of, and experience with, US GAAP, internal controls, financial reporting, revenue recognition, corporate tax concepts, regulations, and best practices. -- Advanced MS Excel skills, MS Office proficiency, and experience with project accounting software. -- Track record of developing engaged, high-performing teams with a strong commitment to outstanding customer service. Proactive mentality and deadline oriented. -- Love to solve puzzles. -- Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities, multi-task, and maintain a positive attitude with strong leadership and project management skills. -- Able to see the big picture in terms of financial reporting accuracy and quality, and can build the appropriate accounting, financial reporting, and forecasting processes to support the vision. -- Leadership, resilience, and persistence to implement change and collaboration that leads a team through the obstacles or challenges that come with change. -- Strong interpersonal, communication, organization and time management skills, and experience implementing process improvements, ability to work independently, and take initiative.
